    Unhappy Puregon Help :(

Ok i'm freaking out that we've done something wrong with the Puregon ... I'm on 150IU and have a 900IU vile (thing whatever its called)... I'm on day 6 of injections so today my vile should have been empty but i still have ALOT (maybe one or 2 doses left) still in it
So now im crying and freaking out that i've been having the wrong dosage.... anyway know what i have to do??? Or have i just ruined this cycle

    Hoping someone can help

the vials have a lot more then 900IU in them - there is an amount at the bottom that doesn't get used. they only say 900IU so that you use that amount and no more! i'm sure it's fine hun

    definitely sounds completely normal Nikki!

i used to have odd measurements so never a nice round number like 150 - and i'd have anywhere from a cm upwards left over when the vial was 'empty' - so yeah, it sounds perfectly normal for you to have that much left over. turf the vial that's "empty" and then start a new one for the next dosage!

Oh good i can start to breath now... thanks so much BG.. i guess i just expected it to be empty than to have so much left...

Another thing that concerns me is DP has been turning the end of the pen (hard to explain so im hoping someone has an idea of what im talking about... the bit you are meant to be pressing in he has just been turning it to inject me) instead of pressing it in when giving with the Puregon... could that not be giving me the right dosage???
I was so annoyed to find out he has been doing it that way rather then the way the nurse told us to do it

    IVF is so stressful

Okay hun, I am right there with you, I had exactly the same thing happen with my first count.. And yes I freaked out totally.
But I had almost 145 units where I thought I should only have about 25iu left.

So yeah, the difference can be heaps. Seriously don't panic hun. Its okay.

As long as the pen top has been pushed down as far as it goes, thats all that counts because that is the full dosage. You would be able to check that the window shows 0 when each needle is completed.

when you depress the end of the puregon pen (by pressing the blue bit on top) the yellow bit turns and clicks anyway - so what he's doing shouldn't make an impact on the dosage you're getting BUT it can make the pen wear out more quickly, so give him a quick clip under the ear and tell him to do it properly from now on!

Oh gosh... now i feel totally bad... i've been crying all morning (since my 7:50am needles) and its DP's birthday today
It always goes back to 0 when he does it so i guess i have been getting the right dosage.... that makes me feel alot better

Sonya - just before i read back in your journal because i remembered something abt your numbers not working out but i couldnt quiet understand what you mean... How did you know you had 145IU left??? My vial doesnt have any numbers on it

Thanks again BG..... you girls have really helped me out

    Nikki,

Don't feel bad, it's all so stressful it's easy to make a mistake for your cycle.

Oh hun, it is stressful. I have had meltdowns thinking I had done it wrong and that was after doing more than one cycle. Remember you can contact your clinic/nurse whenever you want. They are there to advise and reassure too. Glad the BB gals got you through today. xx

LOL Nikki, its such a stressful process isn't it.
I know because of the numbers on the end of the pen. If your vial is about to run out, then pen will only push in so far and stop. Mine went to about 145iu so I had to remember the number it stopped at to make sure that when I installed the new vial that was how much I had to dial up and inject to complete my dose.
Very handy because I had to do that again this morning. Its a pest to do it twice, but I hate having partial vials left over everywhere

Hang in there hun, it really does get easier as you go.

Glad to hear it is all good! I lost count of my dosages plenty of times...

something that a nurse said for me to do: mark a line with a pen (those pens that write in plastic/glass) where the dose is sitting before using the pen... after each injection you will notice that the dose doesn't line up with your marked line... helps to see if dosage went in...

Esperan..... yeah when we started our new vial we have been making sure we get the puregon... the pen idea is a good one... we've just be judging it of the letters on the bottle.... lol not very accurate obviously
