No personal experience here - but smoking does affect fertility (both female and male) - so logically over time if you have quit smoking your fertility should improve.
It absolutely couldn't do any harm to your chances to get pregnant - and it is probably easier to quit before you are pregnant than once you are as it would put extra strain on your body that you probably wouldn't need.
i cant reallt say with all previous pregnancies i had smoked up until finding out i was pregnant we are now ttc again and i quit smoking about 2 months ago and not pregnant yet but im sure the changes it does to fertility wont happen overnight or even 1 cycle for that matter, sorry i couldnt be of any useful help
I'm not a smoker or drinker but I saw a naturopath after my last 2 m/c and she suggested 4 months of taking the supplements she gave me, 4 months of no drinking caffeine and staying away from harsh chemicals (apparently chemicals like cleaning products etc can affect egg quality) etc because it can take that long for new eggs to start to develop I think. I'm not completely sure how accurate this is so perhaps go and see your GP.
I would suggest to quit now, get some pregnancy supplements and maybe start eating a healthy diet for a few months first.
Hope all goes well
Both my husband and I were smokers, and have been most of our adult lives, when we conceived.
We weren't TTC though, so the notion of it affecting fertility was never an issue.
My best friends are smokers, much heavier than DH and I and they have 4 children and no trouble conceiving. She also smoked throughout her pregnancies, and to this day, and all chicldren were healthy at birth, and 'normal' birthweights.
Obviously smoking can cause damage, but sometimes it doesn't. Quitting can only help you either way. I wish you luck!
I quit finally when I was 4 months pregnant, it was MUCH more difficult than I thought. I was smoking again by the time Charlotte was 3 months old. I finally quit for good last September and it was the easiest thing I have ever done.
When you make that decision it will be easy. Keep focused and avoid that next cigarette
I conceived while smoking cigarettes, but apparently we had no other issues. I did find though that with an xp, we were both pot-smokers and months of trying led to zilch, the minute I quit smoking pot and DH and I started trying, bang. Sorry that doesn't answer your question, but I have heard that smoking is a big fat no-no if TTC... all those yucky chemicals floating around are sooo bad... I wish I had been able to quit prior to TTC, as I continued to smoke throughout my pregnancies
Best of luck with it, I suppose some people are just more sensitive than others to the chemicals and harm that smoking causes. I hope that a simple elimination of all the yucky stuff in your lifestyles will lead to a happy and healthy pregnancy!
