    Sperm count

Hi everyone, i just found DH's semen results and realised how bad his numbers really are! Iv obviously seen them before but now that IVF has sunk in and i understand a bit more i can not understand how a 25 year old has such bad sperm quality?? Just wanted to share numbers to get some feedback on similar situations-
Sperm count- 800,000 (read it should be between 20-250 MILLION!)
    Motility- 0%
Abnormal forms- > 70% (should be 0-70, which is border line of being normal)
Two test were done and came back the same!!

When our local GP gave us our results back in december 09 she asked two questions, Did DH have mumps as a child which was a no and did his balls drop as a child, My DH's mum is a nurse so we checked and she said there were no problems as a child. Does anyone know what else may cause these major semen problems at such a young age?? We have already been doing IVF/ICSI since feb this year but im just interested to find some more answers. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

oneday86- My DH is 28 and his last sperm count for IUI was 0.2 milion washed so VERY low..I didnt find out the motility but in previous that has been low too.
The cause of my DH low sperm count is a varicoele in his teste...which is pretty much a varicose vein in the teste which causes blood in there and the sperm to be too hot...he has had 2 ops in the past to decrease blood flow.
We are looking at having to do IVF in October/November. Good luck with your TTC

OneDay86 - My DH had a lot of teste pain, especially when he was hot or doing something physical. One of his testes is also larger than the other and you can feel the fluid/blood sitting around the teste and the larger veins. He has had 2 ops to put 'coils' in the veins to decrease the blood flow which has helped as he doesnt get nearly as much pain.
Good luck with your Stim Cycle. I really hope its the one and we end up in the same 'due date' forum and not just TWW forum.

    Hi Ladies
Very pleased I stumbled accross this thread today. Albi ~ it was interesting to read about your DH because we know that half the reason behind my DH's sperm issues is because he had an op when he was younger to lower one of his testes but also its interesting to hear your story because he does get pain as well and very warm down there, he sweats a lot (sorry if TMI). Could be worth getting checked for that - so thankyou.

We have now done 3 IVF's as you can see below which is supposed to eliminate all male factor issues but because it still hasnt worked im wondering whether it is still having some affect on us not getting a proper BFP. Each time we've gone through IVF his sample has been different. The last one was about 8mil of sperm, 50% mobility (which was an improvement) and I think 70% normal forms (also improvement). I put this improvement down to the tablets DH has been on from my uncle who is a naturopath. But it still hasnt helped as we still dont have our miracle. I'm starting to lose hope but please dont let this get you down because every couple is different. I just wonder what other tests we can maybe do. Ive been tested couple of yrs ago and came back clear but I also wonder wether it could be me too.

Anyway ladies - goodluck to you both.
Albi ~ I hope the IVF works for you 1st try!

Loops has your DH had a DNA fragmentation test done on his sperm? My DH had this test as we have had 1 early misscariage and 3 failed attempts (came back normal thank goodness) I also had a number of tests done which also came back normal, but if your concerned go to your FD and ask for further testing. After our results all came back normal our FD put it down to that we havn't found the 'right' embryo yet! i know this is frustrating but regardless of age, health and quality of embryo's sometimes it just takes that little bit longer. I never thought that we would be doing a 2nd STIM cycle but here i am, sometimes i do loose hope but i believe that i will oneday have a baby and i guess that hope pulls me through it. I hope you can get some answers, never give u hope xx
