    Spotting on the Pill Concern??

Good Afternoon Ladies, I am only new here and have been following a lot of your stories which i find extremely inspiring and very very helpful - mainly to be amongst others who i can actually sympathise with and to feel that i am not quite as alone as i may have thought.

My question is simple and whilst i am seeing the nurse tomorrow morning i can really put my mind at ease yet and wondered if someone had any advice. DH and I are currently on our third round of ICSI, at the moment i am simply at the 'taking the pill' stage, I have been on it since the 12th of June and go to the hospital tomorrow morning to pick up the synarel, i then stay on both until the pill finishes and i get my period at which time i start with the injections. My question is that last night and now this afternoon i have started spotting, I have lower abdominal cramps like the onset of a period but it's not a full period just very light bleeding and every now and then dark red spotting (sorry if TMIF). It just concerns me because i don't remember this happening last time? can anyone advise if they have experienced the same thing and whether this is just a side effect of going on the pill after not being on the pill for so many years?

Thanks so much for any advice!

Charlee, I had a similar problem when I went on the pill before starting IVF...

Slightly different case to yours, I hadn't had AF for well over 100+ days, but a blood test showed I was ok to start taking the pill, but after about a week I developed break through bleeding.

At first it was just spotting, and the nurses said this would be ok, and wouldn't cause any problems at all.

Unfortunately, because my instructions were to stay on the pill even though I was bleeding, it all got worse. It was mainly because it had been so long since my last AF, not simply because I'd kept taking the pill... In the end I was very nearly hospitalised and had to take other drugs to try to control the bleeding because it got so bad.

I don't want to scare you, but you will be ok as long as it is just spotting... if it starts getting heavier, you really do need to make a fuss with your clinic because you really, really don't want to end up where I did!

Good luck with the IVF cycle!

Thanks so much Smithy and Butterfly Warrior, i had my appointment this morning with the nurses and she said the spotting was fine and can sometimes be a side effect of going on the pill after such a long time not on it (insert big sigh of relief here...!) she then looked through my notes and said "you had spotting at the same time last time (in 2005) BEAUTY, forgot about that, hence the reason i am keeping a bit of a journal now because you forget all the signs and symptoms and seem to work yourself up into a bit of a panic. So started on the synarel this morning and all is well - thanks again for your replies.

P.S BW i was following your TTC Journal and was on leave when you got your BFP needless to say I almost jumped out of my chair when i finally read it - so so happy for you!

P.P.S Thanks for the invite Smithy, i will see you in the TTC Journal shortly, from what i have read our husbands have similar problems, almost identical results in fact!
