I just checked and I can get a $24 rebate from HBF for the first 6 visits per year. Something to keep in mind I guess. I'll wait til I see my gyno on Feb 7 and see what he says - but will definitely be keeping acupuncture in mind! I hate being told to 'stop stressing' - you know, if it was that easy I'd just do it, wouldn't I? Grrr.
I agree with you Mrs P - if it were so easy to stop stressing - we'd do it in a heart beat! not like you have an on/off switch for it, is there! i've been told i need to reduce my stress levels too - but i think in a lot of ways it's almost impossible
Emmydee - good luck with the appointment on Monday - just hope you don't have such nasty reactions from the clomid this time around
DJ - looks like i'll be cycling only a couple of weeks behind you with IUI - unfortunately i don't O on my own very often - maybe once every six months if i'm lucky - and i haven't responded to clmid yet, so i should be starting the injectables at the end of next week.
to everyone else - hope you're having a great day and looking forward to the long weekend. mine will be pretty quiet - foot is infected from wasp sting, so i'm relegated to sitting on the couch with my foot elevated waiting for antibiotics to kick in - doc wants me to take anti-inflammatory drugs to take the swelling out of my foot - but that's a big no no with the metformin - and if i have to choose, i can deal with a bit of pain to make sure don't mess things up with the TTC efforts.
:eek: :confused: :help: Now I'm scared! Nobody ever mentioned interactions between metformin and anti-inflammatories! The doctor who first prescribed the metformin checked what I was on, the rheumy who prescribed my naprosyn knows what I'm on, the GP knows all the drugs I'm on (even the ones the specialists give me), the FS knew about the naprosyn when he talked about increasing the dose of metformin... and nobody has mentioned any problems??!!?:

don't panic BW - there was something in the paperwork with metformin (or maybe i found it on the net) saying you should avoid NSAIDS (ibuprofin) when taking metformin - was something to do with increasing the side effects of the metformin - i'd been told to take nurofen plus for an issue with my teeth - and i started having massive dizzy spells and almost passing out and stuff - wasn't fun. have had barely any since then!

I found pretty much the same thing. I had to laugh because I also foundSo one sort of cancels the other. It's again I have the little "how can I be TTC while taking the pill?!" moment. But ultimately, my blood sugar levels are fine - the insulin is completely shot, but the sugar levels are fine, so I guess it's not a huge issue for me. I try to avoid the naprosyn unless I need it - I find if I'm taking it constantly and end up not needing it, I start to get joint pains. The joint pain from that is different to the joint pain from the arthritis, both are difficult to describe and I realise it sounds weird, but I guess I'm ok!:

i understand where you're coming frm - i'm having ongoing root canal work and it's become infected (again - only the third time in 12 moths - not that i'm counting!) - i found when i was taking the nurofen the pain went away, but i started having lovely little hypo's - decided to give the nurofen the flick, use panadol and put up with a litle bit of the pain - is so much better than the head spins with the hypo's!!! DH agrees - he had the job of picking me up off the floor a couple of times his stress levels are so much lower now..
If the panadol isn't enough, how about panadeine? That hint of codeine is enough to take care of most things - I learned so much about pain killers when the arthritis was at it's worst! When you are on NSAIDs constantly, and prednisone at one stage - the ibuprofen type drugs are completely out, but I sometimes needed more, the panadeine did the trick.

did try that - trying to avoid pretty much everything that isn't prescribed by te FS at the moment. i took panadeine the other day to control the pain before i got the stinger out of my foot - it's not so painful now, just swollen - ah well, it's an excuse to keep my feet up for a while. DH has even offered to take me out for dinner tonight so that neither of us has to cook - how sweet!

I'm actually a bit of a shocker when it comes to medications! My rheumy has always taken the approach of teaching me how to adjust my medications for the arthritis so that I'm only taking as much as I need of anything, and I've tended to apply that to everything I take now. I've talked to my GP about it, and he knows that if I'm ever unsure about what I'm doing I contact a friend of mine who is a doctor herself to double check what I'm doing. BUT... once I actually start a cycle, I'm hoping to put my doses of EVERYTHING (including arthritis meds) into the hands of the FS. The whole idea of messing things up because of something else I've taken is pretty scary. At the very least, I'll be wanting a confident assurance from the FS that what I take will be fine.

Emmydee - they can't actually schedule an IUI it is just whenever you are about to O (which can be a little hard to get out of work at a days notice) but if I O 14 days after AF it will be sometime next weekend which is kinda getting exciting now.
I was a bit nervous at first but I am just soooooooooo over the whole ttc thing now I just want to do something about it. (well try anyway).
In saying that though I am not pinning my hopes on this because I know that it may still not work.
Bw - it's funny you say the whole stress thing affects ttc because my fs said that it doesn't affect it, it just makes the whole process all the more awful.
I have also read something from someone on belly belly saying that if that were true why do some get pg from being raped or during wars etc.
I guess all dr think different things, I hope mine is right though because otherwise I'm screwed! lol

Jo, I hope your doctor is right too! Mind didn't say it would make it impossible, just that it would make it harder. I've got so many other factors against me, that I'm doing every little thing I can to help.
Don't know about the sample thing, I'm afraid - my DH has always done his at home.

Brigsy's Girl How's the foot today sweet? I hope the swelling is going down. How sweet is your dh on taking you out for dinner. I have to almost force mine out at times and he very rarely suggests going.
DJ Good luck to you with your IUI and to your hubby on producing his sample. I have heard that the clinics have a special room set up with videos and magazines etc. My dh has done his at home as we only live about 10-15 minutes away from clinic ;)

BW It sounds like you have great drs working with you. I had to change all of my meds that I was on for my back injury when we started ttc. It was a lot of trial and error getting doses right ect :eek:
As for me I had my b/t yesterday so I'll get results next week. I'm kind of expecting af to arrive next week or so as I'm feeling quite moody and have a nigling feeling in my tummy. I guess time will tell. I won't be in here for a couple of days as I'm doing my austswim course tomorrow and sunday and also have my brother and his family coming to visit for a few days. I hope you all have a great weekend :D
I think my body is seriously demented and is going out of its way to make life more difficult for me.
I thought the joint pains I was having were related to weather, it's been really humid here and that sometimes makes my arthritis get a bit uncomfortable, but this has been fairly extreme.
I thought the abdominal pain and cramping sensation was related to overdoing it with some pilates work the other day.
Nope... the light bleeding I was having last week has become much heavier last night/today. It appears that now that I'm taking a drug which is supposed to be telling my body not to have a period, it's decided to do so! Months on end of waiting for it to happen when it should, and it suddenly decides to happen when it shouldn't. :frown:
I'm sitting here wrapped around a heat pack trying to get the cramps and joint pains to subside. I think the joint pains are the worst of it. :crying: I sort of think I should maybe call the clinic again, but I'll probably get told off, and there's not a lot they could do anyway. I guess I just wait it out and complain and grumble to the FS when we get back there.

BW - i really feel for you! isn't it always the way - everything seems to go back to front? you wait months for AF and she doesn't come visiting - you gon on the pill, and she shows her ugly face! On the upside, i guess it shows that your hormones are trying to sort themselves out a little! Hope the heat pack is making you a little more comfy though.
Mako - good luck with the course this weekend! and i hope your DH decides to be nice enough to take you out for dinner at some point - maybe as a reward on sunday night - you're probably going to be tired by the end of the weekend! we didn't end up going out last night - DH came home and found me sittin on the couch with my foot up in my jim jams - decided to cook bbq dinner last night so that i wouldn't have to worry about getting changed or hobbling around too much - which was equally as sweet anyway! he's pretty good like that - we go out for dinner at least once a fortnight (just to the local pub, but anything is better than nothing!) and he helps with everything around home (we share the cooking, he does ALL of the dishes - his choice - helps with the washing and everything - he is very domesticated!!)
Jo - i'm definitely liking your doctors statement that stress doesn't hurt - yay - there's hope for us yet!!
emmydee - i'll see what i can find on cortisols - i know that they're higher in your system when you're stressed - i think (and BW, correct me if i'm wrong - uni was a long time ago!) that they're a kind of naturally produced steroid - but i'll have a squiz and see what else i can find later today.
As for me - DH let me lie in til almost lunch time today (bliss!) - with everything that's happened with the wasp sting and everything i haven't really slept all that well this week, so he snuggled up to me all morning - yay. i think he knows i'm having a bad day today anyway - australia day is my grandad's birthday and his anniversary is only a few days later - i'm usually a bit of a wreck at the end of january. had a bit of a breakdown last night about everything, so i think DH was wanting to make sure i'm OK - he's so sweet!
BG, I think that's (the cortisol thing) about right! I knew there was something I was supposed to be looking up, but I forgot. The heat pack is helping... but I feel kinda stupid sitting in a room with the aircon on wrapped around a heat pack. I think I'd need about 5 to get all the bits that want it - I get the *worst* joint pains with AF! - but I'm managing. DH is out doing the audio for a big Australia Day concert in a park, and while it sucks that I've got nobody to look after me, it's good in a way as I'm free to sloth about in my pjs. I just wish I could indulge in the chocolate and usual AF-induced carb-loading!

i did the sloth thing yesterday - but thankfully it was only my foot that was playing up - not my whole body - i can sypathise with the artriis thing - i have a form of inflammatory arthritis that flares up whenever my immune system goes on the fritz! it was at it's absolute worst when i got glandular fever a few years back, and hung around for months - thankfully, it's been pretty minor since then. the joints in my leg have been playing up this week cos of the wasp sting and the infection in my foot - but one leg is so much easier to deal with than the whole body.

As for me I had a very busy weekend with my course and visitors. Was nice to spend some time with my brother and his family.
Not much happening with me. I'm on cd25 so have about 7 to 10 more days before af or testing.
I'm doing ok-ish. I was close to being hospitalised over the weekend because the bleeding I was having got pretty extreme, but I chased around contacting doctors and eventually got hold of a drug to help it subside. I'm now feeling kinda weak and faint, but was able to get to work today (first day, no kids) ok, but I'm very drained and exhausted now, so I'm giving myself a break from the FS-prescribed exercise. There's been some changes made at work that are ultimately better for me, but I'm majorly peeved about the school's reason for the changes, but I will manage. Focusing on the fact that the changes are good for me, and I can have less stress and pressure and focus on getting pregnant and getting out of there ASAP! :)

Hi Mako - looks like infection has gone - thankfully! i can actually walk properly again!! yay!!! our IUI date isn't for a couple of weeks - am still just on synarel at the moment - visit the FS on Thursday - only a couple of days left til we go on the injections - starting to get a little nervous, but i'll get over it (well, i sure hope i do - poor DH has had to deal with a few mini meltdowns lately. he's taking it all pretty well though - decided yesterday - the anniversary of the day we met - that he was gonna get us two new fur babies to add to the managerie - two cute little kittens that get to come home next week - now all we have to do is come up with names for them!)
awww! two kitties! I'm so jealous! I'd love to have a pet of some sort of pet, but I'm so allergic it wouldn't be worth it. I do collect lots and lots and lots of stuffed toys, though - mainly bears! A friend and I are addicted to build a bear workshop - we go every time we're feeling weighed down by troubles and always come out with a bear or three... each! Anyway, the point of all this babble is that I've started naming them after whatever it is that is bugging me... hence, the cow that came home when I was majorly upset about clomid is called Chloe... Chloe the clomid cow... I think the next critter will get called Ivy. Perhaps you could run with that sort of idea for naming the kittens?

i don't think i'd have enough pets for all the things bothering me at the moment !! - could always do that with my clown collection - DH usually adds to my clown collection when i'm having a bad time! we're both dixie chicks fans, so we're thinking of naming the female Dixie - either that, or, cos DH's dogs are named after alcohol (jack, bundy, whisky) maybe Bailey. i'm definitely leaning toward Dixie - alcohol just isn't my thing! the male kitten is harder to name - he's black and white, with a gorgeous black goatie. the friends who have him now keep calling him goatie boy - so i want to come up with something that will be a lot sweeter than that! i want our little fur babies to have nice names - we're already decided on baby names when that finally happens for us - the decision was easy on those - but i'm really struglling for pet names!

As for me, today, I went to my doctor. He did an ultrasound, and, as I expected, there was no movement. I'm not ovulating on my own. :frown: He said I have some sort of ovulation disorder. It's not PCOS, but something similar. Yay. So he gave me a prescription for clomid 50 mg. I'm starting it next week. I have a feeling I won't respond to the 50 mg, but we'll see. Then we'll be doing our first IUI.

i'm just hanging out for thursday and my next FS appointment so i can start the injections - i hate being inactive in this whole thing!
As for my furbabies - no, haven't decided on names for sure yet. i really like Dixie as well, but we're still undecided - she is so cute - she's mostly black, with a white belly and a few caramel colored spots - has a black face with a caramel stripe between her eyes... as for her brother - we have no idea. DH hasn't met them yet, so i think we'll decide for sure once he meets them and we work out their personalities. she is nice and quiet - he was sleepy when i was there the other day, but apparently he has a very playful personality! they come home probably at the end of next weeks (they're only about a month old at the moment)

It's a huge relief to be back at light period bleeding rather than the super tampon plus a pad and pray you don't leak everywhere bleeding I was having! Still get pretty tired, but I am a lot better.

Sorry don't have anytime for personals but hope everyone is doing better eg, BW & Briggys girl.
I started my b/t yesterday which was quite high (wonder if that's the chlomid) same again today & will be checking again tomorrow.
As soon as we get that next big rise it will be time for the IUI.
Getting a little excited but also a little nervous, I think it's just the unknown factor.
Told my workplace today what was going on & that I may need some days off but they were really good & said they would support me with whatever I had to do which was a huge relief.
So anyway I will let you know when we are going in for IUI as I expect a few of you will want to know how it goes seeing as you are about to do the same.

As for me I've been having problems with my computer and every time I do a post I loose it and my computer turns itself off. GRRRRR :wall: How annoying. I'm hanging in there with the tww however it does seem to be dragging on this time round.
Life here is plodding along. The bleeding is a lot more settled - it's more that annoying tail end of your period bleeding, where it just won't completely stop, but it's just there. Huge relief to not be panicking about leaks, though! I'm starting to be not so completely and utterly exhausted at the end of the day now, which is good. Still have a way to go until I'm fully recovered, but I can feel myself bouncing back.
Work is going ok - although the first time I see one of my classes will be the very last period of the week! Most of my classes seem pretty ok - have some students from last year that gave me some grief, but once we got in to doing some work, they were a heap better, so it's looking pretty encouraging. I told my HOD about the IVF today, which now brings me to 8 people at the school who know... I had wanted to keep it to a smaller number, but everyone so far has been really supportive.
Tomorrow it will be only one more week until the next FS appointment! It's come around so quickly!

BW - it's good to hear that you're feeling better and that your students seem to be behaving a little better this year. maybe they all grew up a little over the summer break (here's hoping!) - i know it's hard to share with people at about work what's going on, but you should have a really supportive network then for this year, so it (hopefully) should balance itself out.
Mako - so sorry to hear about your computer misbehaving itself - how rude of it!! when is your TWW up?
as for our furbaby managerie - here goes! we have one bunny rabbit Midnight (a lop eared dwarf who came to visit form my brothers house in june 2005 cos they ran out of grass, and has never gone home - he was only a few months old at the time) - we also have 4 dogs - had six for a while last year (DH had 2 when we got together, i had 2, then DH's brother passed away so we inherited his 2)! jack and whisky are cattle dogs 7 or 8 years old (bundy & susie - they're parents - both died last year of old age, which was really hard) - then there's teejaye and mini me - my chihuhua cross babies - they're mum died of milk fever when they were six days old (devastating) so my mum and i hand raised my girls and their 5 brothers and sisters (hmmm, i've had the maternal instinct for a little while). those two sleep inside at night cos they're too sooky to stay out, and i wouldn't have it any other way - i love all of my furbabies - including the ones on their way - but i am getting decidedly impatient waiting for a human one to put in an appearance!
as for me - having a shocker today - isn't it always the way that when one thing goes wrong, everything does? DH came home from work last night complaining that his foot was a bit sore - took his boot off to find a nice amount of swelling. took him to DR this morning - and he's either been bitten by a spider or suffering a nasty bout of gout. on top of that, i'm having the worst flare up of IBS i've ever had - and i'm so uncomfortable! my tummy is so crampy - tried to get to dr with DH but they were so overly booked i couldn't - a little worried that (aside from the obvious upset tummy) i have a distinct crampish pain on the right side of my tummy... the whole thing got so bad earlier that i was bawling with the pain, but seems to have settled down a little... not having a good day at all.
bring on the FS appointment tomorrow, then i'm going to try to get myself squeezed in with a GP - even if i have to go to another clinic. tonight i'm planning on just sitting back and relaxing - and maybe trying to eat a little.
BG -- goodness, are you okay? that sounds just awful. i hope you're feeling better now. I guess bad things happen all at once, so now that you've got that out of the way, you should have some major good luck coming your way soon! What are you discussing with your FS tomorrow (apologies if you already told us before)?
Mako -- how are you??? holding up okay during the 2 ww? that has always been a difficult time for me in the past -- going crazy wondering if this or that is a pregnancy symptom.

As for me, I think I already mentioned that I'm starting clomid next week. I'm beginning to start feeling anxious about TTC again. When we were taking our break, I kind of relaxed a bit, even started feeling that it wouldn't be the end of the world if we didn't get pregnant, we could adopt. But now that we're starting up TTC again, planning an IUI, I'm getting all anxious, just wishing that I was pregnant already! It's so hard when everyone around you seems like they're getting pregnant at the drop of a hat!
BG You poor chook.Like you said if its not one thing its another. I hope your tummy is feeling better today and I hope your dh's foot is a little better too. Good on you for taking suck great care of those furbabies.I hope the realise how lucky they are lol. We rescued our boy too just over 3 years ago. He found his way to our friends house twiceand each time he did he stayed at our house until we found his owner. When we did all she could do was complain about what a handful he was as he kept escaping and was ready to put him down. When I was told this I then made it known that I'd take him and care for him. He hasn't even attempted to run away from our place even if the gates open he just comes up and stands at the front door as if to say "well let me in because this is where I am and I know that I shouldn't be here"lol.
My tww should be over anytime between next Monday and Wednesday. My last cycle was 33 days and my previous ones since taking clomid have been 35 days. So this covers both cycle lengths. I won't be testing before then either as I really don't like seeing BFN's.

well, things are going a little better today - i'm on the blandest diet i can find for myself - and only eating what i absolutely have to (if i could, i'd not eat, but DH would kick my butt for missing a meal - he's very good at making sure my blood sugars stay where they should be) - anyway - not as much pain today, but still really uncomfy - finally got to see my GP - and walked out with a script for cream for $55 and told to relax at home for a couple of days cos it's not going to settle down on it's own - have to wait for the torn skin to heal itself - yay (NOT)! Thankfully, the anti-inflammatories they gave DH seem to have worked on his foot - he's still hobbling around a bit, but getting around much better and ready to take himself off to work this afternoon. i guess that means his problem must be gout...
FS appointment went really well this morning (apart from the fact i was in so much pain that i nearly passed out on him - oops!) - start on injections tomorrow - and in for BT next Friday - they're talking about IUI as early as the end of nest weekend - OMG! got DH's SA results - his count is on the low side, but motility is good, and because we're going through IUI and the sample will be cleaned, they're not at all concerned about it. So, i guess it's all go - and now i'm feeling mega excited but scared stiff at the same time - not good! oh well - it's a good kind of scared, so i guess i'll deal with it all.

Hi Jo - at least you're getting close - and Saturday is only a couple of days - it will fly by!
i am really hoping that the IUI is a one off thing and all goes well. spoke to nurse at the clinic today, and she was saying, based on our results, we probably won't be put through IUI more than once, maybe twice - my PCOS is too severe. anyway, they are going to put us into IVF more quickly if need be. i have seen so many ladies on here that have been through multiple attempts at IUI - i found it weird, but also kinda relieved - id they feel i may not work for us, at least they're taking positive steps for us. they think there's a higher chance of me hyperstimulating, so have to monitor that careully, but should be all good.
BG, that's one thing that my FS talked about, too. He prefers PCOS women to skip IUI and go straight to IVF as we apparently respond a little oddly to the injections and tend to get what he called a "multifollicular response". It's apparently quite hard for us to only get the 1-3 eggs needed for IUI. In the end, I would have probably tried IUI first as well, but DH's sperm is so bad that ICSI is our only option. :(

Bleeding hasn't quite stopped yet, mako - but it's back to being more that horrible, annoying red-brown smudge that seems to lurk around forever at the end of AF. I start taking the pill again tonight, and from memory, that usually stops things pretty quickly.
BG, it doesn't mean the IUI is hopeless - you never really know how you are going to respond until they try it. I feel like my last post may have come across as being kinda negative - I'm so tired I wasn't thinking much beyond giving you the info! But as with all things with PCOS, just because you have it, doesn't mean it will happen for you... look at me - severe PCOS with none of the normal symptoms!
