Just wondering if anyone has any experiences of tubal surgery to unblock tubes blocked due to infection? I've heard if the damage is not too severe, tubal surgery is sometimes a better option than IVF?
Thanks for any advice
I have been looking into tubal surgery myself Lauren for similar reasons plus adhesions. Yeah I think it does depend on the severity as to what they can do to save the tube/s. With any tubal surgery the risk of an ectopic pregnancy is fairly high. Other then reversing tubal ligations and repairing ectopic pregnancy it seems to be something not done very often so hard to get information on. One thing I was told unblocking blocked tubes because of infection they often stick back together again shortly after the repair. If it is from an infection sometimes antibiotics will clear the infection and make the tubes patent again. This isn't always the case though and depends how long the infection has been there for. Are you seeing a FS about this or a Gyno? I have been seeing a Gyno but am going to see a FS who's area of specilty is tubal problems. Hopefully he can provide some better info on it.
I haven't actually seen a specialist yet Emmy, I've just been to a GP who is giving me a referral to a gynaecologist. The GP told me that if my tubes were damaged, he was confident they could be repaired surgically. I've been researching on the net and haven't found a lot of info, like you said I've seen that they can sometimes block up again, but I've seen other information that if the person is young, the damage is not too severe, and there are no other problems causing infertility then surgery can be a good option.
I will be interested to see what the specialist tells you. This is probably a stupid question but I'm new to all of this, are there any other options besides IVF for blocked tubes?
Just from what I have reseached the options are tubal surgery which isn't very common or IVF. Some herbalists claim to be able to unblock tubes with herbal tampons, massage and a few other herbs etc but I don't know how effecive this is. I guess the first thing to do is see your Gyno and go from there.
My appointment isn't until APril next year. I have a lap coming up and assumed blocked tube but its not confirmed yet. Thats just going on what it looks like from the outside when I had surgery in Septmeber. I only have one tube after loosing the other to ectopic pregnancy.
If my tube is blocked we will be heading straight to the IVF channel. We will also probably be opting to have it removed as its causing me so much pain and problems with my cycle.
Goodluck. I hope your tubes are not blocked.
