    ultrasound with dye study?

so my gp has ordered an ultrasound with dye study instead of having to have a lap and dye.
has anyone had one of these? what should i expect? is it painful, uncomfortable? whats the best time of cycle to get it done?
    so many questions sorry...

Hey hun, that's the procedure I had done - dye inserted via catheta and then an internal u/s done.

I found it uncomfortable... Not painful as such. I felt cramps similar to AF cramps while it was happening and for a while later.

I know there is a small window in your cycle when you can get it done - from memory it has be done within the first 10 days? You'll probably just have to call them on day one of your cycle and they will tell you when to come in.

I will PM you tomorrow where I got mine done (will dig up the paper work tonight) and what the ladies were like there.

Mine ended up costing $700 odd, and from memory I only got about $150 back from Medicare.

I had one last year and TBH it was pretty unpleasant, but shortlived. When they insert the dye I found it to be very painful - I was clenching the side of the bed pretty strongly - but the whole thing lasted maybe 5 minutes and then she was out of there. I was told by the clinic to have it done after AF but before ovulation - they booked the test after my initial bloods on CD1. I still had a bit of discharge when I went, so it must have been about CD 4 or 5.

Can't remember costs exactly but it was about $200 for the ultrasound place (and got $80 back from Medicare I think). Then there was another $160 odd charge from the fertility clinic for the doctor they sent to perform the test.

I had a similar thing done but with X-ray (just to look at my tubes - I've had two laps). And as the others said its fairly unpleasant. I have quite painful periods so it felt like that but only lasts about 10 minutes - once the dye is in the ouch part is over. Gl
