    Natural Therapy Choices...

Hi all just wondering what choices are about for Natural Therapies for conception. I know about Naturopathy and Acupuncture/Chinese Medicine but is there anything else that anyone has tried and could recommend? Also what are the average costs of a session for these approaches and how many sessions do you need? (eg once a week).

I'm looking into Aromatherapy, some people may not take stock in this kind of thing, but I feel that smells can really have a negative or a positive impact on my outlook. My kids bought me a refreshing fig and pear room spray for mother's day and it's one of those scents that lift my spirits. I'm hoping to be able to use this approach to spice things up in the bedroom to keep us going during our SMEP month. I will also be using it during pregnancy, labour and beyond (I have a lovely little book with recipes).

    Information would be appreciated, thanks!

A bit about myself, I'm 27 and have been diagnosed with PCO (looking into it to see if I have PCOS) and I'm overweight (BMI 35).

    hi there country girl

Not sure where in NSW you are, I'm country NSW now too
I just wanted to suggest Shiatsu. It's based on the same principles as Acupuncture and TCM, but I find actual bodywork can be powerful and profound. I haven't been getting treatments while TTC yet having moved to a new and fairly remote area earlier this year I don't have a practitioner here yet...
but when I was studying Shiatsu I did some case studies based on women's health. Here is a story which illustrates how effective it can be:
A friend of mine had been pregnant and then unfortunately had a blighted ovum, i.e the baby had stopped developing and the pg was not going to reach full term, but she didn't actually miscarry. She was not very keen on having a D&C unless she absolutely had to and so asked me to try and assist her in bringing on the miscarriage (hope this isn't TMI for anyone). It was a very difficult thing to grapple with mentally, especially with her being such a close friend, but I just wanted her to get past the hardest physical part so she could grieve and heal and move on to the next chapter. I gave her shiatsu for about 2 and a half hours and she called me the following morning to say that it had been effective and she had miscarried during the night, placenta and all. She went and had a check up to make sure she didn't need a D&C and it had completely done the trick.
This was some years ago and now happily, she is due to give birth in three weeks
I have also assisted another friend to induce labour when she was due successfully.

I hope that wasn't too off-track for you, but Shiatsu can be excellent in supporting and working with female reproductive system. Aside from the theories about the five elements and the way they relate to the human body being lovely concepts... a full body massage (clothed) is a very grounding and soothing way to try and rebalance any issues in the body. The average cost is $60 for an hour long treatment and I would say once a fortnight might be about right for this purpose. It is safe to continue receiving treatments throughout pregnancy with a qualified practitioner who is well-trained in the contraindications in pregnancy. I hope this is helpful in some way.
Oh and I love aromatherapy too! Have just recently bought some Australian native essential oils which are just yummmy.

    best wishes with it
