    Maca Root?

    Hi,

I wanted to see if anyone had used maca root while ttc. I discovered it a few months back & after a fair bit of internet reading decided to give it a try. I started it on cd1 & stopped it after ovualtion was confirmed with my temps and we fell pg on the first cycle of using it, unfortunately we lost bubs last week.
Im not sure when we will start ttc again but wanting to do all I can to prepare in the meantime.

Wanting to see if others have tried maca root and they qty you used also.

I used Maca after my mm/c. DH and I started taking it and fell pregnant first cycle on it. I haven't read anything that put me off continuing to take it, I was initially taking 2 of the vege caps every day, and now I just take one (currently 8 weeks pregnant), I cut it down to one after getting the BFP. I know maca can support progesterone, so I wanted to continue to take it during the 1st trimester, although I didn't feel entirely comfortable taking the full dose! This pregnancy was intially a twin pregnancy too, but we lost that baby at 5 weeks. 7 week check up showed this baby with a good heartbeat and everything appears to be going well, even though I'm still scared I'm hopeful. I have hope for you too, take time to mourn your angel babies and do whatever you need to do, next time is yours xoxo

    Maca Root?

Have any of you used Maca Root? Primarily I am curious about possibile sperm quantity increase, enhanced quality as well as improved mobility.

My wife and I would like to try for another baby and although we have not had real problems in the past getting pregnant, we are both getting older. It has been roughly 2 - 2 1/2 years since we conceived our last son (my wife just got her cycle back). I am now 39 going on 40 and my wife is 37. With recent reports that sperm plays a larger role in older infertility issues and that sperm abnormalities increase with age than previously thought, I would like to try and improve quality and quantity of sperm if possible.

Allegedly Maca Root is capable of doing that. From what I have read, that "appears" to be the one benefit (sexually) that does not seem to be overly disputed. I have started taking Maca Root & Folic Acid in hopes of improving quality of sperm & quantity. I have not had my sperm tested so I do not actually know if I need to do anything, its more of a desire to "put forth my best product"

Have any of you or our partners had any positive or negative experience with this or anything else?

Hi Rob - I used it from a female perspective to help regulate my cycles once off the pill but I don't have any info from a male perspective. I do know that we got pregnant first try after taking it though if that helps.

Hiya, DH and I started out ttc journey way back in 2005 to no avail. It turns out we both have multiple issues with him having very high morphology issues, some motility issues and 45% DNA fragmentation so all in all, our chances looked pretty dire. We did one frozen embryo transfer and 5 fresh ivf cycles - going into cycle 4, we both started taking maca root. That cycle failed and we went into our fifth cycle. At the time of embryo transfer, DH, myself and our specialist all agreed that there was no point in carrying on following that cycle as the odds were so low. But, lo and behold, the maca may have been coincidental, but I am now 32 weeks pregnant with twins, against all of the odds.
All I can say is that giving it a go can't hurt, worked for us

Nai - I am assuming you feel it helped regulate your cycle correct? We're there any other reasons you heard or read for women to take it?

Melissal - You and your hubs both took it right, not just your hubby? What lead you guys to take it, something read, doctor, etc?

    Hey Rob

Yup, we both took it. I stumbled across it quite randomly, by reading a book about barefoot running and it had a few chapters on native Americans who have included it in their diet forever as a superfood. The book talked about the benefits, one of which included boosting fertility. I didn't really give it another thought as I had NO idea where to get it from. Then one day, I was wandering around the health food shop and there it was so we decided to give it a go. We started off with a teaspoon a day and I ended up taking about three a day in the end. It is a bit gross, doesn't have much taste but has a nasty habit of coating the roof of your mouth and tonsils and forming little maca powdery lumps - nice!!!
We also both took CoQ10, he took Menevit and MSM (recommended by a naturopath) while I took Elevit and Royal Jelly. Something worked, don't know if luck was finally on our side or all of the concoctions we were taking made a difference but we were at the point where we wanted to throw everything we could at ttc so at least there was nothing else we could have done.

Thanks Melissal. Just as a side note, e store I bought my Maca Root from sells them in swallow able capsules. Supposed to take two capsules twice daily. I "believe" each dose is equal to 1230 mg. So although there is an interesting odor in the bottle, I don't have to deal with any of the other nasty issues you described.

Yes - it was to regulate my cycle and boost fertility, but mainly for me cycle regulation as I had a 6 week cycle coming off the pill. I also had the powder which was hideous so the capsules like like a better option!

I started taking the maca vege capsules about 2 months ago. My cycle is normally irregular and varies between 35 and 50 days. Since taking maca, the last two have been 30 and 32 days. I feel better overall and my energy levels seem higher.

The bad things I've noticed have been much worse PMS symptoms - my boobs have been sore pretty much since I ovulated this month, and the last two periods have been so so painful I've had to call in sick to work. So next month I'll be taking it until I ovulate and then giving it a break until AF comes again. If the next AF is still that painful then I'll be stopping it altogether.
