Haven't told my boss!

So I'm in a bit of a pickle at the moment.

I'm a trainee body piercer and I've only been there for a few months. Now I'm pregnant and pretty much showing, but I haven't told my boss! He's actually been away for 2 weeks so I'm worried when he comes back it's going to be obvious.

As a body piercer I'm employed as a sole trader so technically, I'm not an employee at all - I'm self employed. So I don't get the usual protections employees do. I get paid a comission for each job I do and the view is that each artist there is using the premises and paying part of their fee for that privilage.

I really don't want to lose my training because this is something I'm very excited about and I want to do, well, forever! But at the same time I don't want to return to work when bub is very small. I've never had to tell an employer I was pregnant before and I have no idea how to go about it.

Do you want to tell him at all before you are 12 weeks?

I had to tell my bosses at work because of the nature of the job I did, so they knew at 6 weeks.
I just came out and told them. I hadnt been there very long either, and was very nervous as it was a long term position. I actually made a comment at the interview that it "wasnt like I was about to run off and have kids anytime soon" - I was already pregnant and didnt know lol

Anyway, the best way to tell them is just to take them aside when you have time, put everything out there and say this si the situation, this is what I would like to happen, and ask if they have any comments or special requirements in this situation (extra health precautions, or issues with you being pregnant)

Thanks. I wasn't planning on saying anything before 12 weeks but my tummy is seriously popping so I might have to! Especially since not everyone is there all the time so if they haven't seen me in x number of weeks the difference will be obvious. There's one guy in particularly who doesn't mince words and will definately come out and ask me if he thinks I look preg, without worrying about offending me if I'm not!
