Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Huzzah, wysiwyg! That's tops!
Good luck, Mumma T - sorry you're under all this stress and pressure ... could your DH get a second job, if you aren't able to get one in time? I don't say that lightly - I only raise it because when we were figuring out whether we needed DH to go back to work, we figured out that it was more realistic for me to earn more, than for DH to get a part time role.

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
I wish that was an option PN, but sadly no. I am staying positive that i will land something this week. I will contact agencies at the start of next week for temp work too.

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Ganbhhhhh I'm up. Why do kids have to be painful when you have stuff in and refuse to sleep.

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Well 1 interview down and the second tomorrow. Got a call today from one of the phone interviews yesterday and am interviewing for that on Thursday. I should hear about today's on thursday and if shortlisted will be interviewing Friday. If i dont get one of these then i am definitely doing something wrong in the interviews and i may just cry

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Sounds good.
I've been lurking in here for a while ;)
Wish I was having good news but this is the worst time of year to be a contract/relief teacher. I hate getting to the end of Jan (if I've scored a full year contract the previous year, otherwise stress starts mid Dec) & waiting to see if I get another contract with the ed dept in SA or if I'm doing relief work to start with which is nearly always slow to start. Don't want to have to organise self for Newstart. Can't afford me not to work (DH is limited to part time as he's a part time SAHD to a 2 3/4 DS, older starts school in 2 weeks).

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Welcome to the group Leckert.
Well i am done for the week. A total of 2 phone interviews, 1st interview and 2 first& final interviews.
The 1st interview from Tuesday rang me this afternoon and offered me a second interview for tomorrow late afternoon but i cant get care for the kids tomorrow as hubby is working and my other options are busy at such short notice. It was then or nothing at all so i guess thats it for that one. I had told the agency on Tuesday that i could only do the morning on friday but obviously she didnt listen or care, oh well.
Yesterday's and todays i think i did fairly well. Todays kept saying "good response" so i think they may have liked me, should hear next week. Yesterday's should let me know today or tomorrow.
Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me.

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Visited 19 schools today & need to redo a few with applications next week and visit more schools next week to drop off stuff (but I need to sit down and work out exactly where I'm going for them as they weren't on my usual list of starting schools)
-
Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Wow thats alot of schools. Hopefully one of them comes off for you really soon.
Well i got a phone call last night at 9pm asking me for an interview on Tuesday (he wanted today but i havent got care for the kids today as hubby is working an extra shift). Surely one of these jobs will come off, starting to feel quite desperate about it all and I am not sleeping well.
-
Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Fingers crossed for Tuesday Mumma T.
Hope the right school opportunity comes about soon Leckert.
I got an extra day at daycare for DS - which is a massive relief, as wasn't sure what would do with him otherwise. Contemplating flying MIL in for a few weeks while DH is away so that DD doesn't have to do quite such long days starting school. They finish at 2:30 for first term and I am not likely to make pick up till 5:45 and will have been there since 7:30 - once DH is home it won't be quite so bad but I am worried she will be exhausted - do they let them nap at out of hours care I wonder? But then again maybe is easier on my own.

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
I didn't get the 6 month contract, once again apparently so close between me and 1 other. Sick of hearing this :banghead:
Fingers crossed i get the one i interviewed for on Thursday.

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Bummer mumma T - I get the same when I manage to get short listed for permanent teacher librarian positions and don't get the position (the last 5 years its happened)
-
Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Sorry to hear, mumma T :(
Good luck for the other role :goodluck:

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2

MIL can't come over, which is maybe for the best I don't know. Will be an interesting few weeks on my own - DH is the one who keeps things like the washing and having food in the house in order - will do online shopping probably but just have to remember to do it!!

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Well life here just gets sucky. I get a job and my hubby gets laid off. He is devastated. He has never been fired before let alone not having another job to go to. I can see he is just so broken

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Oh no BD, how awful :( Big hugs to your DH.Do you think he'll find something else easy enough?
I just realised I made a mistake with my work. Because my weekly pay is now so low, I'll be under the tax-free threshold. So since I started there in November, I haven't been paying PAYG. But, my pay for the entire financial year will be around $50k with payouts and everything, and my old work would have already considered the tax-free threshold. So I need to be paying tax now and then change it after July 30. Bugger!

Not sure I hope not.

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
MummaT and BD I'm sorry news hasn't been great in your courts. :(
Leckert I know a few teachers who were on contract, now jobless. It's crazy how we need more teachers, yet work is so hard to nail down.
W how are you doing? Is DH away yet?
So, any ideas on how to respond to 'desirable' (I.e. Not essential) selection criteria for which I have no experience? I have lots of experience in the essential criteria but none in the desirable.

Show them how passionately you want the job and also how you are a super fast learner.

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
BD - that sucks! :( So sorry to hear for your DH. I hope he is able to find something again really soon!
Ladylove - what are the desirable criteria?
Not much news from me. I put in a grant application. Its just the outline stage (although still 8 pages long) and I find out in March if I am through to the full stage. Not many jobs coming up in my field although I did see one yesterday that is quite close to what I do so will probably apply but with little expectation. My current work is so full on it is hard to make time to look for the next one but I only have 5 months left. Eek!
Anyway hope you guys are all good. Its snowing here which is nice, but I am a bit homesick at the moment. :)

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Thats ordinairy BD, I hope he finds something bigger and better quickly.
Krys i am on the phone so cant see if you have a ticker, whats in 5 months? keeping everything crossed youbget through to the next round.
LL good like with the criteria.
Well I got a call from the perm position i went for last thursday, I was thinking i had missed out but they asked me to come in for a coffee today and a relaxed chat with my potential boss (again) & another team member. Keep everything crossed for me as its a great company and a good role for me with plenty of future possibility

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Thanks babes
He has a few things lined up thank goodness. Now to just choose one lol
Good luck today mama t
Week 2 almost over and I can't help feel like it's all for nothing :( I'm pretty much just working to pay daycare fees. Feels pointless

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Good luck Mumma T.
LL - DH goes away tomorrow morning for a week then back for a weekend before the long stint away. OHSC messed me around a bit with sorting out care for DD next week but that is all sorted now. My biggest concern is how DD will cope with the tiredness everyone tells me is inevitable when school starts - doesn't help when hear other parents saying how they will be having tea at 16:30 and bed at 18:00 and I will only just be home from work at 18:00! She is used to the long days at daycare though and does get plenty of sleep (at least 10 hours a night), so am fairly sure she will be fine - is just a niggling doubt.
BD - it is really hard when you have two in daycare - I know the feeling from previous years - this year as only have one in daycare (OHSC is extremely cheap in comparison) - it certainly makes working seem worthwhile.

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
If i dont get the job it will be a cruel and unusual punishment. We were talking how quick they can get me a contract, start dates, what they need to organise for me to start down to where i would sit. They are checking references and i should hear today or Monday :)
-
Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
That sounds very promising Mumma T. Fingers crossed!
Oh, and regarding the 5 month thing - no there isn't a baby on the way :) I just have a fixed term contract and it finishes at the start of June. So the hunt is on for a new job!
-
Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
The jobs mine! I start Monday week woohoo!

Re: Working Mummies Support Group #2
Congratulations mumma T!! Great way to end the week
