    Union Workers Entitlements

    I cant spell the last word so sorry..
    My dh has spoken to his union representative about 5 months ago to see what he got in order of Parental leave.. The rep said that he would be able to take his sick days as leave and if he wanted longer then he would have to use his holiday pay.
    Dh has only JUST spoken to his boss about this.. with only 6 days till due date :rollseyes:
    His boss said.. 'you have lots of holidays up your sleeve, so just take them, dont take your sick days.'
    Dh has been with this company for 2 years now and he has 5 weeks holidays, and 3 weeks sick leave accrued.. if that makes sense.. He pays the union fees himself, but his boss does not let him take RDO's because they cost him.. which is stupid I think.
    SO.. does anybody know what union workers are entitled to regarding parental leave?

    Not sure poopie - I would get DH to check with his rep again. I know our award lets DH have 5 days paternity leave which comes out of his sick leave hours. However sometimes it can be a bit of a discussion to take what you are entitled too. For example we are allowed Carer's leave if our childcare falls through however my boss always tries to get us to take our annual leave instead. She does this to reduce the debt of leave incase we quit as AL gets paid out whereas sick leave does not (for us at least). Different awards have different entitlements.
    Perhaps get him to check the facts and then work out what he wants to do. I generally try and approach this stuff knowing my rights and firmly but politely requesting what suits us. Good luck - I have often thought this stuff should not be so hard.

    Thanks, his boss has been pretty nice to him so far, and now I am seeing a dodgy side of him, If he's not entitled to it then Im fine with that, but I just dont want his boss dodging the system. Im thinking he needs to get the rep to talk to his boss maybe, or get it in writing.
