    3 gestational sacs, 0 fetus!

i just had an ultrasound today and the result was perplexing. here it is in part :

    gestational sacs :
    A - 2.39cm - 7 weeks 5 days
    B - 1.98cm - 6 weeks 3 days
    C - 1.31cm - 5 weeks 3 days

    cervix :
    3.36cm

    comments :
there are 3 poorly decidualized gestational sacs showing NO yolk sac or fetal pole

    impression :
    early multiple pregnancy
    trichorionic, triamniotic
    normal ovaries

i just don't understand. at first seeing three dark circles made my heart skip a beat as my current situation cannot permit / afford me to have triplets! and on my very first time at that. however, after two doctors examined me with the ultrasound, they explained that the 3 sacs contained NOTHING. not one of them. to be quite honest, i considered abortion even before the ultrasound, because this has caused me to be bedridden (sleeping & eating) for most of the past month. however, the procedure is illegal where i live. this new finding has made me even more frightened. what is wrong with me? i've never taken fertility drugs and there are no twins/ triplets etc in both mine and my partner's family. also, how can they develop at 3 separate times? the ultrasound clearly shows how largely different they are in size.

what should i expect? i want to prepare myself before i go to an ob-gyne... i'd also like to add that money might be an issue if i have to undergo something drastic = (

How far along do you think you are?

The way I read your results is that it is an early multiple pregnancy so you would need to go and have another scan in a week or two to see if anything has developed. In multiple pregnancies a twin or triplet sometimes does not develop at the same speed of the other(s) or for one or two to not develop further at all so don't get stressed yet. Wait til you get your next lot of results before stressing too much.

I think that sounds like something called a blighted ovum (empty gestational sac), where the fetus does not continue to develop past the 6th week.

However, it does seem really early on in the pregnancy and up to week 6-7 the u/s might only show the sac, and no developing fetuses.

Is it possible to have another u/s in two weeks to check?

As to the size issue, i agree with satya - twins/triplets can often develop at different stages, and sometimes only one actually develops.
