Hi - can anyone suggest anything to use that's safe on my scalp for psoriasis. Up until I got my BFP I was using Elocon lotion with lots of success. Is there anything else out there that will help?
Doctor suggested aqueous cream but it gets all in my hair and is really greasy. Not a nice feeling or look.
Any other thoughts?

I continued to use Elocon lotion on my scalp during pg. I asked my Dr about using it and he said it was fine as the small amount that I was applying would not absorb into my body where it would harm the baby. It is only a topical lotion.
I get it on my scalp too with the odd little spot on my body but you may find you wont need to use anything on it during your pregnancy.
All 5 of my pregnancies it has cleared up completely. Apparently you produce a hormone while pregnant that helps clear it up so fingers crossed this is the case for you too.
It doesnt last long and comes back soon after I have had the baby but it is lovely not having to worry about it. You would think that they could somehow reproduce the hormone so we could take it after been pregnant. Hmmmm sounds easy enough![]()
Sarahrach, My hairdresser recommended me a PPS product that is actually for dandruff but I have psoriasis. I didn't use it during pregnancy, as when I was pregnant, my psoriasis disappeared. I did use it afterwards, and found it helped with the itchyness when it came back, and a little with the redness.
I can't remember the name of it though. I know it was in a shampoo form only, no conditioner, and the label was a bluey colour..
I have been meaning to try the moogoo stuff..yet to order some though.
The PPS stuff has mint in it i think? At least it smells like it does. I had a friend tell me that her mum use to get psoriasis of the scalp, and she found any cheap shampoo (actually $2 shop shampoo and conditioners) and conditioner that had mint in it helped her.
It isn't a hormone. Psoriasis is an auto-immune condition. Basically in a normal person their skin sheds every 30-odd days. In a person with psoriasis that is sped up so that skin is shed every 3-4 days and that is what the red, scaly plaques are. Obviously on unaffected areas it sheds at the normal rate. In a pg woman, her immune system is naturally suppressed so she can be pg - otherwise her body would see the growing baby as something for the immune system to attack and the baby would be aborted. This is why some women see a huge improvement in their p during pg - I did with all 4 of mine.
I too have psoriosis, and like the others it has dramatically improved during pregnancy, prio to I have tried sooo many different things on my hair... aurghh just the memories of Poly Tar make me feel ill!!
But while I am pregnant I don't do anything, now I am into the second trimester it has settled quite a bit, so I am just letting it do it's thing, I have a patch on my knee at the moment which I am using as my indicator as it is going and that has improved a lot, so take the point that what is on my head has improved as much as well![]()
Thanks ladies - I'll hunt up some Moo Goo, hopefully they do a lotion. Will check out the PPS mint shampoo too.
Its not feeling as severe as normal so hopefully thats a good sign but I do want to be able to keep it under control as its still there and looks pretty yuk.
Not really happy to use the Elocon lotion at this time given the manufacturer warnings not to use it in pregnancy, I guess a spot here or there would be ok, but I would prefer to find an alternative if possible.
Beema: Poly Tar - there is nothing worse...
