Not sure if this is the right spot (mods feel free to move if necessary).
The nurse at my dr's clinic just called to let me know that my rubella immunity is very low, again. I have had to have 2 rubella boosters in the past. The first when I had a full blood test when ttc Nina to check if there was anything I needed to do. The second was when we were ttc Emily. As this bub is a surprise bub, I didn't do any ttc preparations, so didn't know at the time about my low immunity.
My dr is going to do a bit of research with regards to if it's safe for me to have the rubella booster (or any other applicable booster) while I'm pregnant to help this, and in the meantime I have to steer clear of any young, sick children. Yep, easy to do when you have children yourself ... NOT!
Anyway, just wondering if anyone has been in this position. What advice did you receive? Were you able to get any boosters? What would happen to me and/or bub if I was to be around children (ie my own children) if they were to get sick?
Hi there, I also have low rubella immunity. I had the pre-conception blood tests and my Doctor told me I was immune, but when I moved over the the middies clinic they pointed out that this wasn't the case. They have just marked it on my file and said I will need to have a booster after I have the bub (but not during my pregnancy).
I am 17wks preg and I have NO rubella immunity. My blood test showed nothing, even though I've been up to date with all my injections all my life!
My doctor said it's simply not safe for women to have rubella boosters during pregnany - there is a rick of passing the little psuedo-virus onto the developing bubby, and it damaging them (in the same way rubella does if you catch it). He just told me to stay away from people coughing/sick etc. and keep antibacterial gel on me in public.
It's not *super* common I think, so you should be okay?
i had no immunity, and im pretty certain i got all my shots and stuff growing up.
The doc told me i couldnt get a shot while pregnant and would have to wait til after i had her, while i was in hossy after i had her they gave me shot.
He told me that when i have another bub, they'll test again and see if im immune, he said its pretty rare but some women arent and never will be immune.
I feel for you i spent my whole pregnancy paranoid about sick kids and then i went and got whooping cough
oh gosh Stevie - were you and bub ok when you got whooping cough?
So with me having to avoid sick kids, what kind of sick kids? The flu or similar, or kids even with a cold count?
Mr dr hasn't come across a patient like me before (I always knew I was unique and rare ) so he's going to get back to me with all this stuff.
hi I have had 3 Rubella Needles.. None have ever taken and according to blood tests when I have been pg say I have no immunity to it.. after my 3rd Pg I asked whether I should bother getting a 4th Needle.. The Dr said I obviously just don't take to it so there was no need and to be aware of it..
