Question Bartholin's glands cyst-anyone had one??

saturday night i was checking my vagina out (as you do ) and discovered a small cyst, the dr seems to think its a bartholins cyst, i was wondering if anyone else has had them ???

The Bartholin's glands are tiny glands located on each labia minora, near the vaginal opening. These glands are responsible for producing a small amount of fluid to lubricate the entrance to the vagina. The glands can become blocked, causing a cyst to develop. The cyst can become tender and, if large, can cause discomfort when walking/sitting. If the cyst is small and is asymptomatic it can just be monitored. Sometimes the cyst can become infected and an abscess develops. In these cases, the cysts or abscess can be drained by a doctor.

i had one a few years back, so not pg related. provided it doesn't become infected, it shouldn't be a drama at all - just keep an eye on it hun - mine got infected, swelled to the size of a golfball in about four hours, and i ended up having to have it surgically opened and drained. not pretty. just monitor it heaps

i'm pretty sure there is another thread about these somewhere here...

AJP I have had these over the years, including one that required surgery and another while I was PG which had to be drained by the doctor.... previous thread of mine here
After that post I went back to the OB .... apparently it was just scar tissue remaining from the cyst, original surgery, surgical drainage during pg and the birth.... seems pretty much better now.
If it is in the early stages you can probably manage it with warm baths and compresses.

I have had a lump for a while. I got it about 6 months ago and it was painful at the time then it went away and came back at times. I went to docs and he gave me antibiotics. I took the repeat then he gave me another 2 doses. It still hasnt gone down. Guess I have to go back to docs. But it doesnt hurt. What to do?

I had one last year and I was told that if the abs didn't get rid of it, then it would need to be surgically drained under a local anaesthetic in hospital. Apparently some women get them because of an underlying cause of chlamydia as well. Mine was the size of a golfball and sooo painful, but I had no idea what it was because I had never heard of them and by the time I got to the Dr's it had started to go down.
