    Fibroid in Uterus

just had my 12 week scan and was told I have a fibroid. It is approx. 6cm (which seems large to me). The specialist said it is not located in a position that should cause birthing problems but may cause abdominal pain when the baby gets bigger.

Has anyone had a similar situation? I read an article which mentions increased chance of miscarriage and pre-term birth.

    Any advice would be great.

I don't have any direct experience, but a friend of mine went to full term with no complications having a uterine fibroid. If I remember correctly, it was also of similar size. HTH. GL with your pregnancy.

My sister had a fibroid that I understand was quite large. Wherever it was positioned, it meant she had to have a CS and it had to be the classic cut, ie. up and down rather than across the bikini line.
I don't think she had any abnormal pains and no problems otherwise. She went to full term. Enjoy your pregnancy, it's such an exciting time.

They are really common. I have at least one, my sister is getting a scan next week as she thinks she has too and my mum had a few. Sis has four kids, all born at term and all natural delivery. Mum had two babies, full term, natural delivery, her fibroids went with menopause. I had an early, small bub via emerg section - absolutely nothing to do with the fibroid. I am pregnant again now and my OB is not AT ALL worried about my fibroid.

Did you have painful or heavy periods as that is often linked to fibroids too?

Please dont worry. Lots of women have them - and many wouldnt even know.

Enjoy a long and healthy pregnancy.

I too have a uterine fibroid and haven't had any problems so far. It was only picked up in my 20 wk ultrasound so i didn't even know i had one. Apparently it is quite common. If your worried about it id suggest speaking to your doctor at your next appt to put your mind at ease.

I had one picked up at my 12 week scan with DS.
It was 3cm, and grew to 6 by my 20 weeks scan. 6cm is actually not that large, my cousns had one the size of a small melon.
They were not worried about mine either, and it was right near my cervix, my OB said they tend to move out of the way. I had a late scan at 36 weeks and they could not see it at all, and nothing came up on any of the scans I had this time wither.
