    Chicken pox and other yuckies

So Ive hit the 19 week mark

But last night when Dh came home from work he informed me that his bosses' daughter has chickenpox. Apparently they found out thursday night, after a drs appt. Besides last night and thursday night, the last time DH worked with his boss was the saturday before.

Then on top of that, the daycare centre that daughter goes to, a fair few people I know send their kiddies there too. Last week one of the kiddies who goes there was diagnosed with herpes, before the dr made that diagnosis the daycare centre had told parents that some of the kiddies had mouth ulcers. But no, turns out that the kids were sharing herpes!

Last night DH's boss kept his distance from DH because he knows that I have no immunity to chicken pox, actually I dont have immunity to anything. And thankfully DH had already told everyone when we announced sprouts impending arrival.

But now I suppose my question are hhow dangerous is chicken pox in the 2nd trimester? And how far should I isolate myself from this? I mean DH and I have already decided that it would be best for me not to see the families who have kiddies going to that daycare, but should I then stay away from other friends who have seen these families? (ie: a good friend is seeing one the friend whose little one has herpes today, should I then isolate myself from her too?) And how long would you isolate yourself from anyone?

    TIA..

From what google tells me, the greatest risk to your baby is if you catch chickenpox between 13 and 20 week gestation, so the chances are if you get it that your baby will be fine. Best to check with your OB or midwife if you are concerned that you may have been exposed though.

    Thanks traveller!

Yeah I read that on google, then other results say different things (and thats the govt sites too). I dont think I have been exposed yet. But for instance tomorrow we are meant to be having a mothers group outing, and almost every single child who is going attends a daycare/preschool that has cases of cp. So I figure if I go to that I am exposing myself and kiddies to it (which is why Im not going to go), but Im not sure how far down the chain of friends I should go to make sure Im safe. If that makes sense?

My ob is away til next week, when I have my appt (and I'll ask then), but I have no faith in the midwives here.

Another dangerous time to catch it is at term, as it means bub can be born with a nasty version of it.
