    Exposure to CMV

    Hi,

My DH has just been diagnosed with CMV which wouldn't be a drama if I wasn't pregnant. I am going to get a blood test tomorrow morning first thing to check my immunity but I was just wondering if anyone else has been exposed to CMV during pregnancy. I'm trying so hard not to stress about it. The outcome for bub's doesn't look good though if I have got it and am not immune. Just interested to hear of other people experiences if any. Thanks.

My DH got CMV when I was 5 months pregnant with our son.

I was already immune fortunately - most people are, and from what I can remember in the research I did at the time, even if you aren't the odds of your baby being affected aren't huge...and I think the main issue was hearing problems.

There's a better than good chance that you're immune, I have my fingers crossed for you.

And I hope your DH feels better soon, it's a nasty virus

    AJP - cmv is cytomegalovirus

it's from the same sort of family as glandular fever, but can impact the carriers liver function but having very enlarged cells on the liver from the virus

i can't recall exactly where i read it (was something to do with transplant patients) but it was said that most people are cmv pos (have been exposed) and it's unusual for people to have not been exposed. i know i'm cmv pos (i had the virus as a teen - a lot of the time glandular fever is wrongly diagnosed instead of cmv - esp when you've had symptoms long term before testing as the mono-spot only works for a few weeks)

Just thought I'd let you know that I'm immune. Have had two blood tests and seems that I haven't had a reactivation. DH is improving and is developing immunity which is great. Thanks again for your replies.
