    Extreme Nausea

    Hi,
My sister is 4 months pregnant with baby no. 3.

She had extreme nausea 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the WHOLE 9 months with her first two babies.... She was vomitting the morning of the day of both kids births!

Now, it seems she's going through the same thing with number 3.

She's on anti-nausea tabs, but they hardly help... i feel so sorry for her... she vomits all the time and can't handle smells...

Does anyone have any ideas of remedies she could try to stop the nausea??????

    Hi

I had bad vomiting during 1st trimester, had to be on a drip in hospital for 4 days and emergency endoscopy due to vomiting blood! I lost 7kg in one month! Although I recovered after week 16 and have a healthy baby girl.

Anyhow what helped me was drinking a bit of ginger ale, rice crackers, NOT looking at food and NOT cooking! as I am allergic to maxolon and stemetil (commonly used for vomiting) I was reliant upon phenergan which did help me somewhat.

If she had this problem with first 2 I think she deserves a BIG medal for doing this all again! I 'm not brave enough!

    Nausea/Vomiting

    Hi Bek123

I have been experiencing similar problems - which only got worse once I hit 14 weeks. After several weeks of not being able to keep anything down - even water and my tummy shrinking my Dr tried Maxalon - which didnt work and meant that I couldnt drive. Now I am on some tablets called Zofran. They work wonders, however they are normally used for cancer patients to help with the nausea and vomting associated with chemo & radiotherapy. They are perfectly safe to bub - but they are expensive. They are around $15 per tablet - I take 1/2 of one a day. Since then I have been able to eat. The other advice my Dr gave was to eat little meals constantly, dont do a lot of physical activity and stay away from triggers (for me smells like petrol, perfume, seafood... etc) My Dr understands their expensive but was worried about what would happened if nausea/vomiting continued, as my 19 week scan is showing bub small for this stage. People with a healthcare card may get them at a discounted rate.

The alternative was a hospital stay with IV fluids etc. Which I am trying to avoid.

Hope this may help your sister. Good Luck it is horrible to be so sick - especially he she has a couple of little ones running around.

    Em
