looking for info on fetal heart block???

    Hi ladies,
I'm 30w3d and about a week ago we found out that our baby has a 2nd degree fetal heart block. I have scoured the internet for info and there really isn't much! I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with heart block?

    Thanks ladies,
    Stay well,
    Bec

I guess it really is as rare as all that!
    Thanks anyway,

    Hi Bec

I was going to reply to your first post but then I didn't want to lead you up the garden path in case I was wrong

I was scanned very frequently throughout my second preg as it was discovered I had certain antibodies which increases the risk of congenital heart block - I assume this is the same as fetal heart block?

From what I understand 2nd degree can revert back and you have no probs, or it could progress and get worse. If it got worse the likely outcome would be the baby would need a pacemaker.

What has your doctor said about it? Are they talking about delivering bub early?

    Hi Bug'sMum,
I'm so glad someone else has at least heard of it!!! I'm glad your little one didn't have it though. From what I've read congenital and fetal heart block are the same thing. I don't have the antibodies, which everyone expected I would have! My Dr has said it is now unlikely to revert back to normal, but it hasn't got any worse as yet. We are scheduled to deliver via cs at 37 weeks unless bubs is getting worse and then we get her out quick smart. He also said that even with a 2nd degree block she has a 70% of needing a pacemaker, although maybe not straight away, becasue hers is quite a bad 2nd degree block (There are two types apparently).

I'm really looking for info on long term prognosis if she does or doesn't get the pacemaker, and how babies iwth 2nd block fair at birth, but it just seems so rare I can't find anyone with the same problem!

I really appreciate your reply, good luck with everything,
    Bec

I'm sure I found a bit of stuff on it - some medical journals and I think there were also some discussion on another forum like bellybelly. Will try and dig some up later and will PM you if I can find anything. I will have my fingers crossed for you - I hope you are not feeling too anxious.

Thanks heaps. I've found quite a few medical journals and studies, but I haven't found anyone else who's actually been through a similar thing! We are just trying to take it as it comes and be brave for our bubby.
    Thanks again,
    Bec
