Question MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and pregnancy/birth

    Hi there,
I hope this is where I should be posting about this?
    If not, please move me!

I have MS and am 20 weeks pregnant with my first baby.
My condition is very mild, but I am having trouble arguing my "case" when it comes to participating in the midwifery group practice. They are concerned about any complications that may arise as a result of my condition.

I am trying to show that I am no more of a risk than the next person & have looked to my specialist for assistance there.

Thought I might ask if anyone else on here have MS, or know someone who does that has had babies?

    HH

I can't really help re pregnancy, my father has been diagnosed since I was 2.
I would get onto the MS Society and get in contact with PWMS, they will be able to give you some info re pregnancy and should be able to get you into contact with other women with experience.
The other thing I would do is find out exactly what it is they are concerned about wrt your pregnancy and birth, then chat to your neurologist and discuss the likelihood of those things presenting as complications, and how you can manage them.

What form of MS do you have?

A very mild form of "relapsing-remitting".
Only the one documented relapse that led to my diagnosis 7 years ago.
I am quite an independent person and don't like to think of myself as having a disability, so consequently don't like to be treated as "different".

I have made contact with the MS society, seeing a nurse there and will be seeing my neuro at 36 weeks.
The midwives want answers to questions before that tho, so I have emailed him.
(he's quiet a special specialist that way!)

I think the main concern is what will happen to my body immediately after birth, given the stresses that will be placed on it.
I am not on any meds (risk to bubs) so will be completely unprotected.
MS is so unpredictable, which is the bugger.
No one knows what can happen each day, mind you is that really any different to anyone else???
