High Prolactin in blood test

I went to the Dr to find out why I wasn't getting pregnant after 15 cycles. She did a heap of blood tests and one came back with high prolactin which is like a natural contraception. My level was 1040. I have to go for a CT scan tomorrow to see if it is a brain tumour in my pituitary gland. I am trying to stay calm for the sake of my family but I am feeling a little freaked out inside. Has anyone had high prolactin levels if so what caused it and what did you do about it? My head is spinning at the prospect of a brain tumour.

Hi,
Don't worry too much it sounds like a prolactinoma which is a benign tumour on your pituatary gland, I too had levels of prolactin over 1000 and was diagnosed with a prolactinoma 7 years ago, treatment consists of a taking medication which will bring your prolactin levels down and you should be able to conceive. Ask your Dr to refer you to an endocrinologist and they will be able to explain more.

Thanks Jules. My CT scan came back all clear. I have to go and have another blood test in a few days and if it comes back even higher than before then I have to have an MRI. My GP rang and endocrinologist and he said that sometimes the prolactin can raise for no reason at all hence another blood test. Hopefully this test will show that it has dropped.
