    Polaramine in 3rd tri

    Hi all,

During my first trimester I had a nasty cold that turned into a sinus infection and the Dr gave me polaramine for it (which worked a treat). Now have a niggling persistent cold type thing which I think is settling into my sinuses, can I take the polaramine again? Obviously I am fairly close to delivery (or at least I really really hope I am!). I would love to get some relief today and tonight to try and get some better sleep.

I am seeing the GP tomorrow about another matter so it will only be one or two doses before I can check with her. But I would prefer to take it now, if you think it is okay.

    TIA

Just to answer my own question, Google says "No" to polaramine in third trimester. DOh!

Personally I wouldnt, not this close to delivery.

    If you are in the
    third trimester of pregnancy, you
must tell your doctor you are
    taking Polaramine because
    newborn babies may have severe
    reactions to antihistamine.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if
you are breast-feeding or plan to
    breast-feed.
    Polaramine may be transferred in
    breast milk to your baby.
Could you get through with a saline spray?

I was told to take it by my GP for persistent sinus condition which worsens in pregnancy and then also have had it while breastfeeding. The only side effect they told me about was that it could make the baby sleep a bit more but it never did. I only ever took 1 tablet a day though just at night time to help me breathe over night.

Gee! I am glad I read this thread!
I had no idea Polaramine was not good in third Tri, I am still in my second and have to take it as I live with a cat & am terribly allergic!
Looks like I will be "suffering" thru the third to be on the safe side!

Gosh, I took it the whole way through my pregnancy with DD because of terrible hayfever and sinus issues. I was never told by my GP, OB or pharmacist that it wasn't safe in the last trimester. DD was just fine. One of my best friends was the same and no issues with her son either That's the first I've heard of it being risky in the third tri, I'd definitely be double checking that with your doctor instead of Google
