I'm not immune to rubella. I was immunized as a child. I had a booster about 9yr ago when it was discovered I wasn't immune and fell pregnant a year later but my immunity was still not there. I'm now pg 6wk and my bloods have come back saying no immunity.
Can anyone tell me if it is knowingly going around a school is it mandatory to report and would other parents be notified of cases? (Vic). How do I find out if it's going around in my area/school?
If it is knowingly or unknowingly going around among school/friends and my DD comes into contact with someone who has it. If she is immune and doesn't get it can it still be passed onto me through her? She is fully immunized. I think it is an airborne virus so that would mean I would have to come into contact with a sneeze etc from an infected person? In which case assuming she was immune, if she was with someone who had it, I couldn't be exposed to it in this manner? Is that right? Can it be spread by hands etc?
I help out at school to so this could potentially put me at risk.
Given the mild symptoms, I worry about how many cases are passed off as everyday illness and not actually diagnosed.
I dont know how seriously to take a low immunity. I haven't told anyone but DH I'm pregnant so I dont want to go around asking about rubella and telling people I'm not immune. I have a previous history of eventful pregnancies so I really want to keep things private for quite a while longer. But obviously I dont want to be near anyone that could put me at risk. With my last pregnancy DD was #1 so I was basically a hermit. German Measles was going around at the time in the media and I just stayed home. This time doesn't seem so easy with school etc.
When I fell pg with DD1 I found out that I had no immunity to Rubella. My dr advised me to steer clear of any schools, childcares etc just in case.
Sorry I can't help any more than that.
My Doctor didn't say anything other than low immunity happens. I cant remember my level but say the normal level of immunity was 10-200, mine was 10. It said on the report that the minimum level is not considered enough during pregnancy. I have to go back to Doctor this week (man I even hate going to the Doctors sitting around waiting for 1+hr among sick people!) so I will bring the subject up again. There isn't much that can be done though other than to avoid people with it. Therein being the problem that symptoms are so minor that how many dont even know they have it? and it's not like they wear a sign if they do!
