    Sore Tailbone

    Hi everyone,
So i've had a sore tailbone for over three weeks now whenever i put pressure on it; so sitting, bending, lying with too much weight on it etc. Its a huge pain to get in and out of the car. I have to sit on a pillow everywhere i go. Very awkward.
I was talking to a friend who is doing physio and also my gp and they both said it is to do with the hormone 'relaxin'. It's a pregnancy hormone that relaxes your pelvic bones (hips, pubic bone, tailbone) to get ready to have your baby. If you dont have strong muscles either the pubic bone or the tailbone is really painful and it gets worse as the pregnancy goes on.

I know you can get a brace/belt thing for pubic bone pain - does anyone have any suggestions for tailbone pain... there doesn't seem to be anything

    Ouch, Ouch, Ouch!!!
I also wonder if it is bubs position? I hope you get relief sometime soon, maybe the support/brace would help anyway? you could be walking etc in a funny way and it probably is'nt helping.

Well i thought about maybe it is the baby's position, but would that really make a difference this early in the pregnancy. It did start 3 weeks ago so i was only 15 weeks then; i do have an ultrasound next week, so maybe they can give me some insite into that.

You would'nt think it would consistantly??? But I have a siatic nerve problem on a regular basis starting at about 16 weeks, it seems to happen when i lean forward and then it hangs around for ages, it probablly is your body adjusting to all the changes and ligaments softening, do you have any pains in the front? maybe you are just getting them in the back area. My bubs is a cellar dweller and stays low a lot of the time, she is starting to give me good kicks in the bladder /f*nny area which are uncomfortable and not so nice but not painfull, keep the brace in mind, you might benefit from it.

i've had this for couple months now too. Midwife reckons i've had a fall and landed on my butt (which has happened uncountable times thoughout my life) and broken my tailbone without realising it. It's extremely and i mean EXTREMELY painful in everything i do! I've tried cushions and pillows, sitting in forwards positions and leaning backwards positions. I've tried the stupid doughnut pillow the doctor swore by. Nothing works sadly. If you find anything let me know! Good luck!

Yeh its just all tailbone, and only when i put pressure on it. So i can stand and it doesn't hurt. however after sitting for a bit and taking steps it cracks (like your ankles or knuckles sometimes) and it feels much better and then i'm fine, until i bend or sit again.
yeh i will keep the brace in mind although alot of info ive found on it only lists it for pubic bone pain.... i'm pretty lucky after my ultrasound next week i also have my antenatel appt. so i can ask then what they think.

i have a very similar problem with my tailbone now and i am not pg. my dr said i probably didn't even do anything to trigger it. i have been doing exercises to strengthen the muscles in my bum and also been getting magnetic laser light therapy which has helped. she has also suggested either an osteopath or a craniosacral therapist to assist me.
its very annoying though and i have learnt new ways to sit and lie down.
    hth.

there is a condition called sacroiliac joint dysfunction that can cause pain in that region. i have suffered from it for both my pregnancies and i have to wear a belt plus go weekly to physio and hydrotherapy to try reduce the pain. not sure if the symptons are completely what you are experiencing, but google it and have a look. unfortunelty they will not be able to get rid of it but doing things increase your muscles strength and eliminating or reducing the triggers that cause it.

yeh thats what i've come across online however it seems that the belt is more for your pubic bone and your pelvis not your tailbone :S i don't think there is much you can do for tailbone.

i find the belt helps alot, it holds the back of the pelvis together better, its not the actual tailbone that causes the pain its the ligaments that hold the the tailbone to the pelvic bones, they loosen to much causing to much mobility and the muscles tighten and ache and sometimes the bones will crunch together, on some days if i do to much my joints collapse and i cant walk, its worse if i forget to take the belt with me, really sucks
