travelling to malaria risk country

Hi all,
In may we are going to Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia and I will be 26 weeks pregnant. This region has a malaria risk which I have read is particularly bad in pregnancy. I have also read that most anti malarial drugs are bad during pregnancy. I am wondering if anyone has travelled to Kota Kinabalu whilst pregnant or maybe any other experience with a malaria risk country and have any advice. This was supposed to be a relaxing resort holiday and now I am getting second thoughts???

I travelled to Bali and Thailand and I know Bali is very high risk. i was 18 weeks pregnant and you cant take anything to prevent it as you are pregnant however if you where alot of mozzie spray (We use *uck off religiosly. only recently available in Oz) and I didnt get bitten once. try to restrict sweet foods as they make you mozzie delicious and relax..... We were there for 24 days / nights and I was fine.

thanks mum2romone, that has made me feel a lot better - i will go nuts with the repellant, and will try to relax and enjoy our last holiday before bub arrives (and probably last holiday for some time after bub too).

hahaha We are going on our first holiday ( To BAli ) since our son was born in April this year. He will be 17 months old .... ENJOY !
