I have an underactive thyroid, currently on the thyroxine for it. But I now been reading all these articles that it can cause premature birth. Is that for women who arent monitored and not on medication? And does it affect my baby being born big? My daughter was born 9 pound 1 and my thyroid was diagnosed after this so Im thinking I had problems back then. So many question I should be asking the dr but I keep forgetting!
Me too! Me too! *hehe* I've also been doing the same reading that you have, and don't stress hun, as long as you are on medication for it, and are having your levels monitored with some regularity, then there is nothing to worry about. The premature births and birth weights are for those who are un-medicated. Thankfully I remembered to ask the doctor when I was there last!
just remember to have your levels checked throughout your pregnancy - which no doubt you are - sometimes they need to adjust the meds accordingly - i too am on Thyroxine - and wasn't diagnosed til after Brodie was born - but he was a month early and only 2.6kg's so who knows what was going on then....
I have an underactive thyroid and have had for many years. I stopped taking my medication for it, a few years before I decided to TTC, against doctors orders Nicholas was 9 pound 14 and Declan was actually smaller at 8 pound 13.
I haven't heard that it can effect the babies size, DD was 7lb3 and I had been on medication for about a year by that stage. Definately have your levels checked regularly, they should be between 2 and 2.5 during pregnancy. Hypothyroidism can also be linked to iron deficieny so make sure you are taking a good pregnancy vitamin as well.
Do any of you guys know what your TSH reading was around time of conception?
Did any of you have trouble TTC - before or after your thyroid was diagnosed?
I found a shirt on Cafepress that simply says 'My thyroid sucks' - i might just buy it!
Got a TSH of 5 today - have been aiming for between 1-2 and my body is totally resisting. I feel like i have no control and no specialist support backing me up - all the specialists have more than a month waiting list and my gyno/obs thinks that my level is fine!
My GP may feel confident enough to up my dose of Oroxine - but she is away until Feb and i could just do it myself but know your not supposed to......at this rate i may get my thyroid level under control my the time i hit menopause!
