Question BSL of 10 ... could this be diabetes?

I had GD with my pregnancy last year (ended up on insulin).

BSL's following the birth were fine. Never got referred for a follow-up GTT (oops )... but just did a BSL 2 hours post my evening meal and got a 10. Does this mean I may well have impaired glucose tolerance, or more likely to be diabetes???

Could be either (I currently have the same problem and I was also a naughty girl ) Go and see your GP for a blood test.

It also depends on your weight as well. I have gained 5kg in the past 3 months (no idea how ) and that can be a significant reason for the elevation of BSL's

thanks for the reply. I've managed to lose about 5-6kg (i'm a few kilos off a healthy BMI now), but lost most of that a couple of months ago, have been losing maybe 100-200g per week recently. So I don't think that explains it

What has the outcome ended up being for you?

I'd definitely see your GP. I have type 2 diabetes, which was tablet controlled before pregnancy and then went on to 4 needles (yuck) during gestation - funnily enough, having the baby seemed to re-set my body and I am back to no tablets or needles now. Your GP might just recommend another GTT to be sure. My diabetes specialist has be testing before meals now ... but during pregnancy it was 2 hrs after meals and before bed. A reading of 10 is fairly high, but nothing to be too worried about. The GTT should tell you more, and the fact that you have been losing weight is great!

oh good luck! I really hope you get good results back.

Well i've booked an appt with the doc. My BSL this morning (after only a 8 hour fast) was 6.3, which also seems a little higher than it should be. I've only got 4 test strips left, so I'm gonna have to face the music I think
