I have the flu. Yay me i haven't been this sick in years so I'm struggling with it. I seriously think it's man flu. When it gets bad and I let it go too long between doses of panadol, it feels like induction of labour. It's actually a bit traumatic.
Doctor prescribed panadeine forte, bed & fluids. I'm trying not to take too many panadeine forte and alternating doses with panadol. I'm also trying to keep doses 5-6 hours apart but the pain starts if I leave it too long. The drugs & rest are helping to keep my temperature down but I can feel it start creeping up now it's been 5 hours since the last drugs. Writing this is making me feel faint.
How long does the flu last? I'm over it already. I'm not particularly hungry. Does it matter if I eat much? I can't stomach sweet things and I can't be bothered cooking. Just had some toast but it made nauseous. I'm not going to fade away, but I'm not hungry. DH is away otherwise I'd get him to make something.
Any idea when I'll be better? I'm not good at being sick
When i have the flu, like really bad i can be sick for 1-2 weeks. Usually the first 3-4 days is when i feel like death and i too don't like to take so many drugs.
Have you tried soup? I know chicken soup helps me feel better.
You poor thing, the flu is just awful. I have only had it twice in my life, and both times I was very sick for around 5 days, then weak and generally lethargic for another 2 weeks, give or take a day or two. I hope you feel better soon. If eating is making you feel ill then stick to liquids for now. I'm sure a friend would pop around with some soup of you told them how ill you are.
I was jetlagged Monday then started feeling flu Monday night. Luckily I made some chicken soup Monday but I dont feel like it now. So I suppose that's 3-4 days now. I guess I'm not likely going to be better by the weekend then.
I forgot to ask the doctor, am I still contagious?
Might see if Mum can make me some vegetable soup but I think she's coming down with something too.
I haven't had the flu since I was a kid, but my DH who normally never gets sick at all had it this year and he was really sick for about 3 days and then not fully recovered for about 2 weeks.
I know you said you don't want to take many pills, but have you considered the cold and flu tablets? My DH couldn't get out of bed without them, but when he took them he was partially functional - you could definitely tell when they were starting to wear off.
I would say as long as you keep up fluids just to eat what you can - hopefully you will start feeling better soon xx
true flu can take a month or longer to FULLY recover from. Whilst you could be back at work after 5-10 days, you may still feel lethargic for up to a month.
