Took DD to a dermatologist in Wagga yesterday for a problem she has around her vulva/bottom which has been ongoing for at least 6 weeks. I'm not happy with the treatment we received from him, I don't think he deals with children all that often as basically made me feel like crap because she is still in nappies (she is very obstinate and stubborn, and was toilet trained for a few months but suddenly refused to use the toilet so is now back in nappies until warmer weather), and seemed to think if been 'stupidly' sucked into using Moo Goo because it's marketed as being 'natural'... Anyway, he has tentatively diagnosed her with having Granuloma Gluteale Infantum, which is fairly rare and there doesn't seem to be any treatment as such for it.
If it doesn't resolve itself in another month he wants to do a biopsy on it, which because Of her age and the location may have to be done under anaesthetic, which obviously I would prefer to avoid.
After speaking with my mum about our experience yesterday, I would like to find a different specialist to go, firstly for a second opinion, and to go to someone who actually works with children and has more of an idea about everything involving them.. Does anyone know of any paediatric dermatologists, or any that are just good with kids, in the Riverina area? Albury, Wagga, possibly Canberra..
If it still hasn't cleared up by the time we are due to go back to this guy I want to have some info, and another potential doctor to see, to take to my GP and see if he can give me another referral.
