I've been up most of the night with toothache and this morning i woke up and it's still with me, and my family all said i should just take nurofen, and without really thinking i took two caplets.
About a minute after taking them i thought "oh crap, i think i can only take panadol" so i searched on the net for something about taking them whilst preg, and the nurofen site wouldn't load!!! But on google in the blurb it said you should NOT take it!
Now i'm freaking out, because i've been so careful with everything else (i.e. no soft cheese, no tuna etc)
Does anyone know why or what it does to the baby?!
I've googled this before and I think the benefits to you will far outweigh the risks to your unborn baby and if you've only taken 2 and not any before or on a regular basis, you should be fine i would think. I would probably ask a doctor though... i'm just going off what i have read. if you took it every day for a few days then you could be causing a risk to your unborn child. you should be okay...check with a doc. i can understand why you would be very worried... but try not to worry... x
Firstly try to relax a bit. If you only took two caplets and only once then I really don't think you should worry too much.
I don't know of the side affects, but am thinking that if there are then they would occur after prolonged or continual use IYKWIM. ie several doses a day or over a number of days.
I'm sure your bub will be just fine but maybe talk to your Dr for some reassurance.
oooh thankyou Renstar, Sam and Niass! Ok, i have calmed down now....
I think i just initially panicked and i didn't know what sort of effects it would have... but i guess you're right, i've only taken 2 tablets and i never normally take nurofen. So i hope its ok...
My grandpa said he can't take them because of his heart medication, so maybe its a blood thinner too??
The stress of worrying about it could do more harm to your little bub than the 2 tablets you just took so try not to worry Keira... check with your doc or midwife next appointment anyway to ease your mind
my dr told me i could take neurofen under his supervision when i hurt my back i only took 2 tablets once as i felt guilty. i'm sure you and your growing bump will be fine. as long as you are feeling better.
I took one nurofen last week due to headaches.. On the packet it says not in the last 3 months and only on Drs advie.. I was camping and had no panadol... I asked about it at my MW appointment and she said its fine... not to take but as a once of thing.. it worked baby is fine..
I had some dental work done during my first pregnancy - the dentist I went to was a butcher...but I was allowed to take Panadeine after talking to midwives and a doctor.
Thankfully I don't have to worry too much about the pain factor now with dental work as DH's father is an incredible dentist...I had two wisdom teeth out mid-afternoon one day and was eating steak that night.
Oh Keira you have had such a stressful week you poor love... :hugs:
Take a deep breath. Nurofen isn't advised in pregnancy, especially early pregnancy. A one off dose is extraordinarily unlikely to cause a problem. It's an absolute remote remote remote possibility. Don't take it again. Stick to panadol but don't stress about what you have already taken.
Asprin is NOT contraindicated in low doses in pregnancy and it does not cause developmental issues. I and many many many women take asprin to sustain their pregnancies. It thins the blood, aides implantation and helps prevent clotting.
Asprin taken for a headache is contraindicated in pregnancy becuase of the bleeding issues. Especially in the first and third trimesters... This doseage is much higher than the "baby asprin" taken by many women.
You are fine and so is your baby my love. I hope the pain is eased. Sit in the sun, relax and know that those 2 nurofen are have done no harm! Mention it to your midwife, but I feel certain she will say the same thing.
Don't worry! I took a couple of Nurofen for toothache during my last pregnancy - my bub is perfectly fine. I think it would be an issue only if you were taking them continuously & especially in the last two or three months of your pregnancy. Smile!
