    taking nurofen for a toothache

    hi
    ive had a really bad toothache the last two days and last night i rang my local hospital and the doctor on call said i can take nurofen since last night and its working
    but im scared i asked him and he says its fine but should i be worried
    is it really ok?

    Hon, I would be getting a second opinion because I was told to avoid nurofen during pregnancy. I don't think it would be as bad if you are past twelve weeks however I'm still certain it's a no-no.

    I also had a toothache when I was pregnant (common apparently). My pharmacist said no to neruofen. You can take paracetamol, or a low dose of paracetamol + codeine.

    Neurophen is definately one to avoid during pregnancy - however, don't beat yourself up over one dose; it is unlikely to have caused any long term or lasting side effects. When I was PG I was told there isn't enough research into the effects during pregnancy but one of the key concers is it may cause onset of early labour.
