Question What does an asthma attack feel like?

I've been having chest problems more & more often over the last few weeks & I have no idea whats going on, but I need to try to work it out.
I'm normally fine. No issues with my chest at all. Like, I feel perfectly fine now.

It happens over night more. I just start having coughing fits. Not just coughing though. My chest feels wierd & I feel a bit breathless. I have to concentrate on breathing, coz i feel like I'm not getting enough I guess. & there's phlegm on my chest.
It lasts for an hour or more & I have to get up so I don't wake the whole house up.

Its wierd, I don't feel like there's phlegm on my chest any other time. I feel nothing at all now. I'm not asthmatic. I had mild asthma at about 13, but that was more just a cough that lasted a few months. Nothing else.

Anyone know what it could be? I'm getting less & less sleep as it happens more. I don't know if its to do with being pregnant, but its only been happening since then. Does it sound like asthma, or me being paranoid?

I was going to say, could it be your diaphragm (sp?) being squashed when you lay down? As your uterus grows?
I would go to GP (or mention at next check up) just to be sure.

For me an asthma attack, is like a dry irratating cough, that I do not get time to breath in between episodes. My chest gets tight and I fight to breath. No phlegm though.

    Hope you get some answers

For me an asthma attack is like a real constriction around my chest - like it has been bound and I can't get enough air in. I'm unable to take deep breaths. As per the above, not usually phlegmy, but can be if I have a cold as well. I don't always have a cough, but if I do it's a dry wheezy cough and then you struggle to get air in again afterwards.

Definitely get it checked out though.

Do different positions help ease the coughing?

Not til mid May. I am thinking of trying to see him earlier, its just not easy to do coz he's half hour away. I've been getting alot of headaches too, so want to ask about that soon as well.
