    Why nothing about prostate cancer??

    Hi everyone

I just wanted to raise what I believe to be quite an issue and see what everyone thought...

There is so many fundraisers out there to support breast cancer, I could name atleast 10 off the top of my head, however my husband raised a very valid point the other day which I had never even thought of...

There are just as many men that die from prostate cancer every day as there is women who die from breast cancer

Recently I received an email from a safety company promoting their blue steel steel caps. They are now donating $10 from every pair of a certain range sold to breast cancer. Steel cap boots are predominately (sp?) worn by males, however they're donating to breast cancer. Just another example of the awareness of breast cancer and nothing for prostate...

We never see any fundraising for prostate cancer, however there seems to be more and more every day for breast cancer.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that there is such an awareness for breast cancer now, I just think that we should be thinking about the men and helping them as well.

Anyway I just thought I'd put my thoughts / opinion out there and see what everyone else thinks?

    Take care

That's a very valid point you've raised. It's true that it is somewhat neglected in the big fundraising drives, but it is so common. I read once that if men simply live long enough they will eventually get it - that's how common it is, so it's not a matter of 'if' but rather 'when' - and that's downright scary.

    I hear you Janine.

My Father, my Grandfather and my Great Grandfather all sadly passed away from prostate cancer. It has always been "secret mens business" though as men don't talk openly about things like this especially as two of the most common symptoms are impotence and urinary dysfunction.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 32 so I'm a bit torn between the two. Over the years I have raised many thousands of dollars for breast cancer charities in my efforts to give something back to try and ensure the stats start to change for women.

I really don't know why breast cancer gets such high profile support and exposure.
