Fissure...how did you deal with it???

After almost 6 weeks of pain back in May, I had a cyst on my bowel drained. This ment I had a drainage tube sticking out of my butt approx 1 inch form my exit door .

So after a month I notice that there is still greenish looking 'puss' coming out of the drainage area...thinking that the area had healed I kept a watch on it. then the continuous wetness and dampness started. I was unable to walk to my shopping centre (2 km) as by the time I got htere I was in pain and the dampness was more like me wetting my self....and then the smell.... no one else could smell it (well I friggen hope) but I could and I didnt like it.

Finally got in at the doctors on a saturday he was available and jed was home (didnt want to take the kids to see that) and he told me I now have a fissure. Great my butt has been seaping my waste with no control.

Back off to the hospital I go BUT I have to wait to see the specialist (october 9th) and we take it from there.

Its put me so far back on my weight loose as I cant exercise....its friggen depressing me to the max . I lost 15kg and have now put 5 back on...I wanted to have lost a heap more before this happened so when I went to QLD I could wear nice stuff and now I feel crap cause Im still having to wear my fat lady clothes.

I have to sit in the car for 2 days to get up there and thats not going to be nice. Pad's dont soak up the dampness as its inbetween the cravis IFYKWIM and ive tried wedging a panty liner up there but feel like Ive got a turtle sticking its head out when im walking when I do it.

If yourve gone thorugh this..can you please share some tips with me??? Its driving me insane

    TIA

Hi there, unfortunantly I know exactly what your talking about. I too have had the painful and embarassing anal fissure.
I went to the doctors a few times and they told me it was an anal fissure. Only one doctor gave me a cream for it, and it worked! It's not a perscription cream either. I just had to walk up to the pharmisist and tell him that I was after "anal fissure cream" very embarrassing!! but they gave it to me and I had to rub it up my bum 3 times a day. grose. But it worked and I'm so glad I embarrassed myself.
If your in lots of pain, go talk to the pharmisist. hopefully they'll have it and dicreetly give it to you without saying "anal fissure" really loud and embarrassing the hell out of you. )
    Good Luck!

could you possibly be able to get some ribbon gauze and stick inside it will be painfull to do this but will soak it all up and then when you have your shower at night the water will help pull it out.

this is what we do for patients who come in to have theirs repaired. we pack it for 2 days with antibiotics and gauze to help remove infection then it gets fixed in surgery.

i am hoping im thinking of teh right thing, and if not sorry.

is it where the drain was coming out of the original surgical site? this is common as it disadheres as it is a high tension spot with walking sitting squatting etc etc.

exactly. just have to wait but wanted a coping stategy in the mean time.

The ribbon gauze is a good idea...but not when your goign away for holidays...last thing i want to do it try and take it away after being in the car for so long and have a little dignity left so wont be asking jed

    yeh true.

its a horrible spot as its something you cant physically get to unless you have your bottomr set of ribs removed then you may get close.. lol

you can get very thin small pieces of dressings called telfa they wont stick to you or anything but will absorbe alot of fluid. also comfeel is an adhesive and will absorb fluids and the like. you put it on like a second skin.

    WELL

I went to the chemist to get the cream and as my fissure is not actually on my exit hole I was unable to have the cream as it has to be inserting internally

the dressings helped a bit but the pain is still there and is starting to increase. Its friggen starting to do my head in honestly...bring on the 9th of ocotber

Are you sure it's a Fissure Tear? I had one a while back that my Dr said was caused from being constipated and the skin around my, ah, exit has been torn from being under too much pressure and I got told off for not eating enough Fibre, but personally I blame the pregnancy hormones . I put up with it for a good 2 months before I went to my DR... there is just something about spreading my cheeks so someone can see my hole that just wasn't appealing to me, but jeez I'm glad I did. And Bleed... yep, don't I know it.

Damn painful... but what you have sounds alot worse and alot more frustrating! Mine was cleared up just using a bit of dermaid and thrush cream around there 3 times a day for 2 weeks, not sure how you would go putting that internally though... I also have been using a soap free wash/gel down there called Pinetarsol to prevent it from happening again.

I hope you get it sorted out soon, you poor thing! There is nothing worse than when your bits are playing up I don't reckon
