I think it really depends on the situation. I've visited houses that didn't feel right and had lots of strange experiences, later to find out bad things happened on the "land" iykwim? I also experienced a psychic scream by a previous occupant (a family member who had passed in the house) in a house that had been newly renovated (might as well have been knocked down it was so different). Also spirits can attach themselves to a person rather than a place. Some people are like magnets to the energies. It's really hard to say.
