Mirena and period regularity

Hi,

I have had Mirena inserted now for about 5-6 weeks. I have had light spotting but nothing like a period. My period still hasn't arrived. A lady here at work tells me that the Mirena has made her periods like clockwork, every 28 days and it arrives. I do have PCOS but i thought that the Mirena works like the pill where hormones are released into the system and regulates your period???

Should i be concerned? Are your periods regular whilst using Mirena?

I bled / spotted for about the first 3 months with Mirena, and now (a year on) they're still all over the shop.

TD, I think the level of hormones is so low that it won't necessarily regulate (plus it's only progesterone, not oestrogen as well). I have heard of it stopping AF all together, and definitely it seems to cause lighter AFs. But not necessarily regular. I spotted for about the first 3 months, then I got semi-regular AFs. Give it some time to settle down and see how you go then. You definitely shouldn't worry. Have you had your 6 week check up yet?

Me too...and the bleeding is very dark and thick most of the time (TMI!!)

Thanks for the responses. I did a pregnancy test and it came back negative. I've got some light pink bleeding at the moment so i'll see if it develops into a period.
I haven't had my 6 week check up as i have a pap smear coming up in August and hate having down there prodded by drs too often. So i thought i'd wait til then and have it checked then.

Great! (sarcasm) Means i have to wear pantyliners all the time! i hate them.
