Exclamation Should i get my mirena OUT?

I've had this fabulous thing in for about 20 months. It is great for birth control and getting rid of AF but i don't think i can handle it anymore.

I am getting terrible nausea for the past 4 weeks. Along with the nausea, i've started to get lower back pain, hot flushes and mild to severe headaches too, again for the past month.

I'm waiting on my private health insurance to age (1 year in mid July) so i can get my tubes tied.

The nausea is unbearable and hits at anytime. I have it right now at work and got an attack at Woolies the other night.

Because i have a phobia of vomiting, this is really doing my head in.

If i get it removed, what contraceptive can i use for the next few months? Or should i just stick it out til mid July?? I really don't think i can make it if i stick it out til then....

    Anyone else had these sypmtoms??

I haven't had those symptoms, but used to lose my mind on the pill (very nasty mood swings). If it's making you that sick, I'd get it taken out ASAP.

I went off the pill in June 07 and used a combination of Fertility Planning (thermo-sympto method) with condoms/withdrawal successfully before TTC in May 09.

Any chance of DH getting the snip or would that be dependent on insurance too?

    Hey Tash,

No luck in Dh getting the snip. He's ahem "too manly" for that kinda thing or so he thinks I have to do it.

I loved the whole 19 months that i was on it. It is the best contraceptive ever IMO, but it's started to bug me.

Nooo why no more little TDs running about? Hehe.

The wife of a man at work has SEVERE mood swings from something along those lines, im not too sure what mirena is but she had a rod insterted into her arm and pretty much wanted to kill this poor guy the whole time it was in there!!

Hope the nausea eases lovely lady x

My psychiatrist even said that we needed to get it out as it could make my depression worse or cause episodes.

But it is just so convenient

Mirena is an IUD which is inserted via the vagina and sits in the uterus. It is a great long term contraceptive.

No more TD's, sorry. I leave the breeding up to the younger generation. I've past my use by date

Are you sure that you couldn't be pg? It probably wouldn't hurt to have a test done JIC the mirena has failed/worn off because those sound like pg symptoms to me. And if it isn't that, then it would be a good idea to take it out especially if your Dr thinks it could make your depression worse.

    Bite your tongue Trill!

I just had my period a few days ago and had a preg blood test in late Jan, so there is no possibility.

I went to my GP today and got a referral to a gyno to get it removed.

Sadly, I can't handle it anymore.

It doesnt work for everyone darls. It is the only one that has worked for me so far. I do believe that if it doesnt agree with you it should come out. I had the implanon (the one you are talking about Ammaki) and that disagreed with me so I had it removed. You know your body and you know what's normal and what's not. Good luck at your appointment

That's good to know LOL - you just want to be sure because you never know If you are worried about the way you are feeling just have it taken out. Maybe even try a depo injection if this has worked for you so well?
