Hello
I had a D&C yesterday as i had a missed miscarriage (was supposed to be 11.5 weeks, bub passed at 9 weeks).
When i woke up afterwards i had severe cramping pain (Similar to my contractions with my last labour). The paracetamol they offered me (yeah thanks!) did stuff all as did the Oxycontin they offered me after that. They finally gave me a Voltaren suppository and the pain finally went down to a more managable level. This morning i woke with mild cramping (similar to AF pain) but it has since gotten worse as i have been overdoing it a bit today as hubby had to go to a funeral and i was on my own with the baby.
I had a D&C for retained placenta in Feb and i had absolutely no pain afterwards, was just a bit tender. I have spoken to a few people who have said it is not normal to have this kind of pain after a D&C. I don't know what to think. I wasn't expecting this pain and do not need it as a constant reminder of the loss of my baby.
Thanks in advance
x

I am so sorry for your loss. With regards to your question, I had some pain after mine, but not in the region of what you are describing. Have you any other symptoms (temperature or increased bleeding, or bleeding with a funny smell)? If you feel the pain is not decreasing then phone the hospital and let them know what is happening, they may wish to see you. If you have any extra symptoms then it might be an idea to go back to hospital or to your GP and get checked as soon as possible.

I think you need to get checked out, it sounds like pain which is more than what you should expect normally. Get checked out quickly if you have had any signs of fevers such as feeling hot and cold, sweaty or shaky. You might have an infection and need antibiotics or retained products which needs an ultrasound to see.
It would not be unreasonable to go to Emergency with this, especially since its the weekend. If Swans is your nearest ED that would be good as there area Obs and gynae's there
Good luck
I had a d and c due to a missed m/c in april the pain was there it suppost to be like your peroid pains. But i have to agree with everyone if your getting that bad of pain go to the emergency.
i cant offer & advice except if the pains too bad to tolerate go the emergancy
i just wanted to give u a hugeand send my love!!
Thinking of you and your family!!
Hey matie, has the pain settled down now??
Did you go to the hospital/doctor?
Hope all is well, love you lots xxoo
Thanks for your replies.
Pain is alot better today, my sister brought me over some voltaren tablets last night and they seriously work wonders. As I have no other symptoms (smell, fever etc) so I didn't bother going down to emergency, wasn't too keen on sitting in the waiting room for hours with a 6.5 month old. Bleeding had pretty much stopped yesterday but it has started up again today so I'll just monitor it.
I haven't had to take any pain killers yet today but feel better knowing that the voltaren will help.
Thanks once again for your help, I was very worried last night as the pain just didn't feel right.
Xxx
Glad your feeling physically better today Stoked.

Thankyou Sara, I am so sorry for your loss too xxxx
I had pain like that and it was retained placenta.. I would keep an eye on it and if it gets worse. Go back to the hosp and ask for an US
Oh... it better not be.. to got through that again would be just awful.
I am going along to my GP tomorrow as i am worried about infection now. There is the tiniest bit of an odd smell, i wouldn't say bad, but the longer the pad stays on the worse the smell is (sorry TMI).
I also still have a very tender tummy. I am so over this already.
Hey Stoked,
I still think ED is a good option. I wouldn't normally suggest ED if it could be dealt with at the GP but you will need an ultrasound and if there is retained products theatre, Going through the GP will stretch this process out over a few days whereas you may be abl eto get the answers and solutions straight away at ED. Also the earlier you can get antibiotics the better
Hope you feel better really soon

Sending you mass amounts of hugs
Fingers crossed your GP appointment goes well tomorrowI really hope you don't have to go through another D&C.
xxoo
Actually I totally agree with you Polly.
When I had my mc I went to the GP and it just ended up being a waste of time and money.
He ended up sending me to the ED too, there they booked me in for an ultrasound and booked my follow up appointments straight away - to avoid any waiting times over the following days, and TBH the Drs in the ED seemed a lot more knowledagble on the subject. Gave me an internal and a bit of a clean out (sorry tmi), gave me advice, anti D shots... things my GP didn't
good advice polly![]()
