Hi, just after some reassurance i think. I had a m/c, the bleeding started on the 18th of December, I passed my baby Christmas eve and kept bleeding, and I am now spotting still. Its been nearly 3 weeks and my hcg levels are still at 200. I am having an u/s tomorrow and then d and c possibly on Friday.
Can anyone tell me what happens with the proceedure and does it hurt? Whats the recovery time like and how long after can you start ttc again? is there any effects on ttc? Any other info would be good. I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old....do i need to organise help with lifting? I know when I had a cvs with my first pg I wasnt able to do lifting for a bit....so many questions, I just think I am nervous.
I have had 2 D&C's, for endo though. The actual procedure itself is painless, you will have it done under a general anaesthetic and depending on how long it takes, you could be in and out really quickly or it could be a bit longer. It is done as a day surgery, so you will be home that night. you wont have any pain afterwards to prevent you from doing anything, but you may have some cramping and slight bleeding. I can't answer the TTC part though sorry
Hi minimatron, sorry for your loss. I had a d&c January last year due to a m/c. The procedure will go as Trillian wrote, as for TTC again I had 1 period then fell pregnant the next cycle. Ruby is now 4 weeks old.
A friend of mine fell pregnant 2 weeks after her d&c and her baby is now 6 months old.
Your Dr should advise you how long to wait, I think it is up to you and how you feel.
Good Luck xxx

Like Trill, mine was day surgery. General anaesthetic, felt fine pretty much straight away. Minor cramping that panadol helped. Was told to avoid heavy lifting for a few days.
My doc said there was no reason not to TTC straight away, bu it would depend on the hormone levels as to where my body would be at. He thought mine might take a bit longer since my bub died at 12weeks, but got AF back at day 28. We fell preg the next cycle.
A D & C as you would know is under a GA. Depending on your gestation a pessary may be inserted to help to dilate your cervix - this minimises the risk of damage to the cervix with the dilatation instrument. Usually its day surgery unless there is too much bleeding. I didn't have any pain after any of mine - there was some discomfort & only a small amount of bleeding for a couple of weeks afterward.
Usually you are asked to wait for your next period before TTC.
The procedure is as the others have said, general anesthetic, day surgery......When I had my 2nd d+c I had a little tenderness in my lower tummy. It hurt a bit to touch and heavy lifting was a no-no for a few days. I had a little bleeding for about two weeks I think, kinda like the last few days of my period. Doctor said we could ttc straight away if we wanted, but would prefer for us to wait a month or two. We waited til I got my next AF to start again. again hun. Take things easy.

Thanks girls. Makes me feel a little less scared about the whole thing. I was pretty early, I went in at 7 weeks for a dating scan and the sac only measured 5 weeks. By the time I had the scan I had been bleeing for 2 days. Just a little nervous thats all.
