Tegan, first let me just say sorry for your loss. I know how hard it can be when your not even sure what was going on.
The only thing I can think is that the baby you were carrying died, but you did not naturally m/c until later. That would give your levels the time to drop as you described.
Sorry for your loss. When I had light bleeding at 5.5 weeks with my 2nd m/c I had a HCG reading of 3 which is classed as negative and two days later it was 0. This was after having 3 positive HPT's all different brands. At the hospital on the day I got the reading of 3 I was told either I was earlier than I thought I was or I had already lost the pregnancy, turned out the second thought was correct. My bleeding was less than a normal period.
