We found out that my pregnancy was a blighted ovum on Thursday after an US. went straight to my GP for a referral to the local hospital, went to Emergency and had it confirmed, then was back in Hospital on Friday morning having a d&c.
As far as I am aware everything went ok, there was a bit of concern that I was bleeding too much, when I was first moved from the bed to a recliner, the whole blue sheet/pad thing and the pad between my legs were soaked... then when I got up to get changed I had a coughing fit and blood went everywhere...then the first pad I put on with my knickers soaked through within 10 mins... but after that it seemed fine and the nurses werent worried about it...
anyway, it is now Monday, I'm not bleeding very much now, but I am in quite a bit of pain, I have no energy, I'm probably a bit depressed, I just want to sit and stare and then when the cramping starts just sit and sob....
I've been taking paracetamol/codeine (500/10mg) tabs (1 every now and then, no more than 6 in a day) when it got really bad, today I havent taken anything yet, but I just dont feel right, but I dont know if its just because of all this or if I'm in too much pain, it comes in waves like contractions, most of the time is bearable as long as I dont move around too much, but if I do then its bad, worse than any period pain I've ever had....
I'm scared, about possible infection, I know that the discharge is meant to smell funky, but it always smells funky to me...
I'm scared its all just in my head.
I feel like I'm on the verge of a panic attack constantly....its bloody exhausting....
With my D&C after I didn't feel much in pain, besides the emotional pain and loss. I wasn't bleeding very much, just spotting for about a week. A week after the D&C I had severe period like cramping and lost a big blood clot (sorry if TMI), after that the pain went away, and no more bleeding after that either. I did call ER as I panicked then just to check, but they said that was alright.
If I were you I'd call the ER and ask what they think. Especially if the pain lingers and is so strong. They might tell you to come in and do a blood test or something.
Sending you big hugs in the mean time. And hope you feel better soon.
I would suggest speaking to nurse on call about the pain levels and things. Just to get some advice. Your hormones are in free fall, you've had the procedure done, it's possible it's totally normal and what you are feeling is simply your uterine wall healing/uterus contracting etc. But if there is enough pain/discomfort that you feel a need to ask on here, maybe you news to ask someone professional kwim?
Take your temp before you call. It's bound to be an early question. Generally odour would be a sign of infection but temp is just as telling. I agree its not always easy to tell of an odour is normal or not!
Hun, I'm so sorry for your loss I have had 2 D&C's (but one was with a lap so I'll not focus on that one) and I had a bit of pain on the first day but I had no pain at all in the subsequent days. The bleeding was also very light too.
The pain and blood loss sounds very unusual to me this far after your D&C, I definitely think you should get checked out. Much love to you xxx
I had no pain after my d&c, just some mild discomfort. I bled for over 2 weeks, but the first few days was fairly light. It only got heavy for a couple of days a week after the d&c (and again 2 weeks after).
I'd be inclined to give the Dr/hospital a call and discuss it with them. It sounds like it might be worth looking into.
