Natural M/C started - what to expect???

    Quick history -

I went to the ER yesterday as I had bleeding (wasn't flowing but had had pink discharge previously in wks 5, 8 and 10 and this was red and didn't want to wait until 12w scan (I was 10w5d) to check.

Got in quick and had blood taken, internal check, etc... was told it would be considered a threatened miscarriage. Then I got my blood work back - was told my hgc was 9,000 (should have been 25,000 - 288,000). DH is like wow 9,000 but I knew this was A LOT LESS than it needed to be and I started to cry (he quickly pick up on the vibe). In the time I was there the bleeding increased and the cramping became more intense - and in ebbs and flows (haven't had a baby but like labour in that the muscles were working then relaxing and so on).

As it is a long weekend we can't get a scan until Tuesday to confirm what we 99% already know. Dr said that time my body might try to take care of it naturally - which it has.

(Going to get a little graphic as I want to know if the worst of it is over).

So got home, cramping got worse (Dr even said take nurofen so she must be convinced of my outcome), bleeding got worse, had a cry, called the family then went to bed.

During the night I got up to go to the bathroom and it flooded out of me, like lying down was letting it pool and clot and the pad was holding it all there and just gushed into the toilet like blobs more than liquid. This happened twice and my good night was completely covered and started to overflow to my underwear by the time I woke up. Cramping was really bad throughout the night and ended up taking panadol to take the edge off the terrible cramping pains (didn't want to take anything but had become painful and couldn't get back to sleep).

My question is - is this the worst of it passed? I just thought it'd be like a period and I'm just so scared I'm going to see the baby because I was almost 11 weeks..... the dr said most don't and it is better I pass everything naturally as you don't want surgery if you don't need it - after last night I think a D&C would be less confronting but my body has started this now.

Dr said I should bleed for 7 - 10 days but I'm hoping some of you out there that have gone through this can enlighten me about what to expect in the next few days. Will the clots come out quick and then just bleed like a period???

I'm sad but almost feel like I was prepared for this in some way - or maybe my emotions haven't digested the full picture of what is happening to me.......

any tips / advise / info would be greatly appreciated - no T.M.I here - I'd like to know what to expect when you have a natural m/c

    Thanks

I am so sorry for your loss. I had a natural m/c at around 8ish weeks and I had the same experience as you. However, then I found the bleeding pretty much subsided to very light and spotty only a few days after the intense bleeding. I too am about to be graphic..........I did see a sac type thing on the pad - it looked like skin, it's hard to explain so I want to warn you about that. Hope you get through this okay, thinking of you.

Firstly, I am so sorry for your loss. I am really sad to see this has happened to another person in our BB group and another person who as due on the 8th (I was too).

I had my miscarriage at about 6 weeks. Like the last person that posted I found that the majority of the blood happened in the first couple of days and then it basically went to spotting and stopped a couple of days after that.

    Take care of yourself.

I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks I started spotting that night I had bad cramps increased bleeding and passed the baby it was quite small. Seeing the baby actually helped me to accept that it was real. I bled for a total of 7 days after the first night the bleeding and pain tappered off. The bleeding after I passed the baby and other tissue was just Iike a period. I had a period 28 days later. I would really advise that you let your body do it naturaly having a d&C may be a distraction (unless it is absolutely necessary, if the bleeding is excessive and or goes on for an extended length of time) It will not take away the pain of losing your baby and it may actually delay the grieving that is necessary. Go gently and I hope you have supportive family and friends.

I have just come to the end of my m/c, to start of with I was just spotting, then cramping before and went on to have a lot of clotting, a couple of larger ones and a lot of smaller ones but that was only for a couple of days and then I just had what seemed like a very heavy period that teatered of just last night so now I am back to minimal spotting, I am glad that it is over and I can TTC again and that I did not have to have a d&c as I have only told a few people that I was pregnant.

Thanks to all for their replies. Had an u/s today to confirm I have had a natural miscarriage. At this stage won't need a D&C which I am happy about as I didn't want a procedure if I didn't need to.

Like many of you my first night saw the most of my heavy bleeding. I had painful cramping that came in ebbs and flows like mini contractions. After the first night the bleeding has lightened up (not even like a heavy period) but cramping has come each night.

Damprye - make sure you speak to your dr - I was told that I needed to have a regular cycle before I try to conceive again. Although you are HIGHLY fertile after a m/c you are also in a higher risk factor for another m/c before you have a regular period. Once you have that regular cycle it's game on!!!

Best of luck in your upcoming TTC journey.

I appreciate everyone's honesty in sharing their m/c experience. It helped reduce my fears and concerns in this already traumatic time.

All the best and sticky vibes to all!!!
