Anyone else out there furious about the amount of harsh chemicals added to big-name brands like Huggies etc??
After recently switching to biodegradeable eco disposables I just cannot believe the difference in my baby's skin- it is utterly flawless without a pinch of redness or irritation- even when nappy is on all night. Just proves the theory that many environmentalists have argued for years; that nappy rash is not caused by urine alone, but the exposure to harsh chemicals and the interaction between these chemicals with the urine which produces toxic ammonia.
For anyone who is interested, there is one tried and trusted European eco-friendly biodegradable disposable brand now available in Oz called Moltex Eco Nappies. And there is a new 100% Biodegradeable Disposable 'Safeties Nature Nappy'
So happy that we Mums can now use nappies that are both convenient and eco-friendly at the same time!!!!
So, who's boycotting mega-rich chemical Huggies with me???
PS- I have found Safeties Nature Nappy at my local IGA- not sure if all IGAs sell them though...

We had a really bad skin reaction to Huggies that triggered excema. I've been a full time cloth nappy addict and won't turn back even for eco-disposables
Jellybean, I think its great that you posted this!
I read about this some time back and it has just given me even more reason to be a SAHM and use cloth - its just damn scary what we put on our little ones and have come to accept over the years.
I think the idea of these chemical free nappies is great and I am sure I will need some for going out etc....
Congrats to both of you for using cloth! I am totally amazed at how many Mums on Belly belly use cloth actually- as I haven't encountered any in real life!
I started using them in the beginning, but I felt as though I was constantly washing (excuses, excuses, I know- lol), and then when we moved house it just all got too much. So when my hubby brought home biodegradable disposables I nearly died with relief!!
Definitely a good alternative for cloth wearers when out and about....
This is exactly the main reason why DH and I are using MCN's (cloth!) once our first baby is born.....
Also, to save heaps of $$ !!
I was going to buy a small pack of huggies sposies incase we needed them for a back up system however I might try those eco one's you've told me about. Thanks.
