Is he ready or should we wait a little longer?

Hi there.
I've been thinking about Toilet training my 2.5 year old DS recently. He wakes from his day sleeps dry, he tells me when he has done a poo, and he likes sitting on the potty for a short time or coming to the toilet with me. The last 2 days I've had him in undies all day except for his day sleep. He has only had the one accident in the last 24 hours... so it seems like he's going 4-5 hours without wetting himself.
I have a very big house and it's a long way to the toilet, so I've put the potty in the lounge room with us.
He's not telling me when he needs to go yet. He knows when he's wet himself.
Should I assume he is probably ready and to just keep him going for the rest of this week in undies? Or could he not quite be ready yet?

Sounds like he's ready to me! I'd give it a go. It's all a learning process. Expect a fair few accidents. This doesn't mean he isn't ready, just that he's learning. It took four months for dd from the first day that we showed her the potty to the day where we'd had no accidents for a month and we'd started putting her in undies overnight. It sounds like a long time but every day she got better and better until it was like she'd never been in nappies. I'd definitely try it out. Don't expect miracles in a week though. It takes time, patience and perseverance. Putting the potty somewhere easily accessible is a good idea. Ours is in the dining room which is near our living room. I've put a stack of books there too so that being on the potty is a semi enjoyable experience rather than a chore. I'm no expert but dd was fully tt by 22 months so it must have worked! good luck!

Yeh sounds like he is ready for sure

... my DD was 2.5 last Summer and it was so much easier with warmer weather to just let them have their undies for the day inside the home.

We got a child's toilet seat that you pop within the big toilet seat, from Target (they sometimes have specials $ on them) we let DD pick which design she liked (a baby sesame characters) and she also was to pick a stool (she picked a Dora one, we didn't care that it didn't match as long as she was HAPPY to look forward to using them when we got home) ... within 10mins of both items all set up in the bathroom she was weeing in no time & never had a problem with her sitting on the toilet training seat but all kids can different.

I remember DD took her undies off which was fine then i heard noises coming from the hallway and she was standing with legs spread with a hard poo sitting on the carpet with her saying with great concern " WHAT HAPPENED, WHAT HAPPENED ", was soooo funny ... i had to explain that the poo she was seeing came out of her bottom, and i will never forget the puzzled look on her face ... as if to say how did that big thing come out of there

Just remember to NOT stress yourself out over the subject like i did, what a waste of energy that was ... it all comes with time ... GOOD-LUCK with it all
