Amelie was vaccinated today and had the rotavirus vaccine, which is a live vaccine, and the illness can be transmitted through baby's poo. I have been told to handle the nappies with care and to wash my hands thoroughly afterwards. The nurse said to double bag my nappies, but I told her that I currently use cloth and would that be a problem? She said no, but I don't like the idea of these nappies hanging around for a couple of days until I do the next wash.
What are your thoughts? Should I go disposable for a while? If so, how long?
If you were going to use cloth then maybe use some flushable liners to prevent as much of the poo from contacting the nappy as possible and then flush it. I'd give them a good rinse in hot water also and then perhaps wash at the end of the day instead of waiting for a full load so they're not sitting around.
She had no idea how long the virus could be in her poo for? I would assume it would be in the literature that comes with the vaccine. I'm sure the old polio one (sabin) was 48 hours but I could be remembering wrong.
I would just use a liner and then wash as hot as the nappies could handle. Hang out in the sunshine for some good air time too (sunshine sanitises).
If you have terry flats, maybe use those for a couple of days, they can handle a 'hot' wash moreso than MCN.
ETA: I just did a bit of reading, the virus is only shed in about 13% of recipients, but this can last for about a week in those that do shed the virus. It is recommended to be super vigilant about hand washing after nappy changes and careful handling nappies.

Thanks, girls! I have decided to be a bit cautious and have reluctantly gone with disposables for the week- I think at least I will be sure that the virus is gone that way. Although, we'll see if I change my mind in a couple of days!!
I just had mine done too and I was worried about the exact same thing.
it is only 13 percent, but it's for up to 2 weeks. however, it's not rotavirus that they shed, but the attenuated live vaccine version of it. in theory, it could cause disease but only in the very immune compromised. I just wash the nappies on hot anyway - but I am being super vigilant about washing out her potty within a minute of a poo,- I used to sometimes wait until after I had re-dressed her etc, but not now. just in case.
by the way - did it make your dd sick?? mine got the runs something horrible, with big mucuousy poos. I Was also worried because she reacts badly to sugar in my diet, and the vaccine is in a sugar syrup.
