Only poos in his nappy - Ideas for getting him to poo in the toilet?
DS is 3.5, and we've pretty much got the wee part covered, he has occasional accidents but is mostly very good. He'll sit on either toilet or pot, or outside on the lemon tree , just depending on what takes his fancy at the time.
But he won't poo unless he's got a nappy on, just holds on all day if necessary. A couple of months back he had about 2 weeks where he would poo in the pot, but then he just stopped & has refused ever since, or "tries", but tells me there's nothing, even though I know that there has to be. So I've no idea how to get him over this little hurdle - tried promising him surprises, tried talking about it (constantly), tried just not worrying about it, but I'm sooo sick of changing nappies IYKWIM. He's too "clever" to get the trick of placing a nappy in the pot/toilet I think, he'd just tell me there was a nappy in there & take it out, so I just don't know what to do.
we were exaclty the same, and dd is 4! i bought him a big train set, put it at the top of the cupbard, where he could still see it, and siad he could have it when he started to do poos in the toilet. it sat ther for over 7 months, then about 3 weeks ago, something snapped and he's done every poo in in the toilet since. i think you ust have t wait until they're ready..
With girltwin I just let her see the poo being emptied from the potty or nappy into the toilet, and it seemed to click that was where it all ended up. She was happy to try after that
You could try asking him to sit on the toilet with his nappy on to poo so he knows what it's like to sit and do poo and then when he is comfortable doing that, ask him if he would like to sit on the toilet to do a poo without a nappy? As Traveller said, getting him to watch you put it in the toilet from his nappy and letting him push the big button for poo.
Another friend told me a story about a poo party. That a psychologist told a little boy a story of how Mum, Dads and Sister's poo were all in the toilet having a party and were sad that your poo was missing out. It apparently worked as well.
I have on and off issues with DS2 still, so I think it's a waiting game as well.
