Just a little background- we attempted to tt DD a couple of months ago, just to see how she went and we stopped when she started to get crabby about being put on the toilet. Before that she was really starting to make progress.
Fast forward to now and she seems really ready to start being toilet trained. She tells me now when she's going and has recently started taking off her nappy and giving it to me saying "yucky nappy mummy". Unfortunately she also took her nappy off last night and then wet the bed (I didn't realise she took it off!) .
Now I have a dilemma. I'm due any day now but ive been told that any change in routine will just make her regress with TT. Do I start putting her back in undies (have been putting her in pullups but not really taking her to the toilet but she keeps pulling those off too), or chase her around the house when she takes off her nappy?
I would say go with it - ask your DD if she wants to wear knickers or pull ups/nappies & go from there. She might regress when bubs come along anyway but I wouldn't stop her 'progress' in the meantime. Given your due date is in two weeks - she may well be tt by then. GL & best of luck with your upcoming birth of #2.
I would say go with it, it might make the new baby coming an even better experience for her as she will be the 'big girl' in knickers.
I would just suggest you give it a shot, encourage her while she's showing the interest and see how you go, a lot of the time with kids it's 2 steps forward 1 step back.. it is pretty bad timing (regarding chasing her around) but it might make it all the difference when bubs comes.
Strike while the iron is hot, if she is ready, then it will be fairly easy, but if you miss the window it might reinforce ignoring the signals her little body is sending her. Any regression from a new bub will only be temporary.
ETA - a nice half way point between pullups and undies are training pants - like undies but made out of terry towelling and with a bit of plastic in there to contain the leakages.
Thanks for the replies ladies. DD is at childcare today and I have asked them to put her on the toilet with the other kids and she has her pullups on, so I guess we are back toilet training.
I think I will forego the 'straight to undies' training (which is what we were doing last time). I just don't think I'm going to be able to move fast enough to stop accidents lol.
