I did start with the potty at first to encourage TT in a comfortable environment (the loungeroom in our case) so they weren't put off by having to sit on the toilet in a small room kwim? but as soon as they got the hang of going in the potty, I started putting them on the toilet with a small seat on it as I was very loathe to have them become so attached to the potty that they refused to use a toilet kwim? I have a friend whose little girl used a potty for nearly the first 12mths she was TT and they had to take the potty everywhere with them because she refused to go on the toilet. In the end she was nearly 3 before she stop using the potty and I just did not want to go down that path.
I started with the potty for similar reasons to Sherie (so he could sit on it in the lounge room!), as well as because Aidyn had a fear of the big toilet.
Now he has been semi TT for nearly 6 months (still does #2's in nappies though), and he still prefers the potty... He will go on the toilet (with the attachment seat) at home though, and will go to the toilet at kindy. But if we go anywhere else unfamiliar he does not go on the toilet... he will sit on there, but will not 'go' iykwim... He seems to have a bladder of steel though, cause he will hold it in for hours if he wants to!
When Jack started showing interest in using the toilet, I bought both a potty and a kiddy toilet seat. He has only ever used the toilet. I have offered him the potty and he won't have a bar of it. I think it is because he sees us using the toilet and he wants to do the same as mummy and daddy - also now he uses the toilet at day care too. So really, Jack made this decision for me, and it has worked really well for us. Now I just have to find a way to get him to stop playing when he needs to go to the toilet *rolls eyes*.
i recently bought a potty (cause it was extremely cheap at the time) but now i reckon he'll just use the toilet straight away, probably wont bother with the potty.
I have a lot of friends who have recently been through the TT thing....as we have a while back with Olivia. It seems to me about a 50/50 split!
We went straight to toilet for Olivia, with the steps and the small seat thing.
We do have a potty, but she showed no interest at all.
Not sure how we will tackle it with Charlie.....still have that "joy" to come, LOL! But I think probably straight to toilet.......he is scarily fascinated with watching everyone else use the loo, so I think he'll identify with it better? Dunno.....
